Synching Thunderbird with your Google calendar is wonderful! The procedure is not intuitive nor well documented, but was quick and simple. Here is what I did:1. Open the Add-ons window (Tools/Add-ons) Add the following extensions: - Lightening - Provider for Google Calendar (bi-directional access) - Google Calendar Tab2. Click the Preferences button for Google Calendar Tab extension, select the second radio button (Google Apps for your domain), and paste the URL to your Google calendar (to do this, just open your Google calendar in a browser to get the URL).3. Quit Thunderbird and restart.4. Select Tools/Google Calendar.Your Google calendar should open in a new tab within Thunderbird and you should have bi-directional access to edit it without ever having to leave Thunderbird. Nice! (You may need to login the first time but you can then tell Thunderbird to remember your login credentials.) Unless you close the Google calendar tab, Thunderbird should open default to open with the Google Calendar tab. If you close the Google calendar tab, simply re-open it by selecting Tools/Google Calendar.

I've installed v. 0.7.1 - restarded the PC... I can receive emails but can't send a single mail... even after having reinstalled thunderbird 3.1.6...
Can anybody help me? This programm could help me a lot if it doesn't block thunderbird of working properly...

This program violates my five minute rule. first I removed lighning before installing this, then finaly found in the fine print lighning needs to be installed. got both installed still nothing obvious... back to the help pages, couldn't find any magic xml buttons to press still no signs of the addon doing anything no asking for google login information... five minutes are up! uninstalled!

google addon works great in outlook, asks for my logon info and works in under 30 seconds!

A perfect example of how to take a first step (by the way, the first step is usually the most difficult).
Inspiring, Philipp. Really.

- Only works with "added" calendars I could only get it to work with "added" calendars (that I had write access to), not with the default/main calendar associated with my Gmail address.
-Only works with "ICAL" link
I could only get it to work with the ICAL link provided by Gmail (not the XML link)

Just downloaded the provider plugin, after weeks of messing around to find a solution for centralizing my agenda so I can access it on multiple PC's! Just follow the manual, and there's no problem at all! Not even with TB3.1.6 and Lightning 1.0b2!!!

Doesn't work with TBird 3.1 and Lightning 1.02b. Loads, but won't sync!

Excellent add-on. I wish if I could accept the meeting requests coming from other IMAP server into google calendar though. If it is possible, please let me know how to configure it. I am running 0.7.1.

Works well for the most part... has problems when an instance of an Outlook-based recurring meeting is modified. Will not update the new meeting time!

Signed up for an account just to review this. Really awesome add-on. Does exactly what it says.

As @SukiLou said, check out http://bfish.xaedalus.net/2007/04/stay-in-sync-with-gcal-and-thunderbird/ for details on syncing up with Google Calendar.

The main thing that didn't seem obvious to me is that you need to create a "new calendar" in Thunderbird, and that is where you put in the Google Calendar info.

Thank you a million times over! I have been a Microsoft applications software since I have owned PC's. I bought a new notebook PC this month, and REFUSE to give any more money than necessary to Gates, et al for mediocre software. I love this open code stuff. I figured it out, took me a few tries and a few different websites to view. the best explanation for me was http://bfish.xaedalus.net/2007/04/stay-in-sync-with-gcal-and-thunderbird/. Many many thanks, again. This is GREAT!

@Bade, to get your TBird cal entries up to Google Calendar: In Thunderbird, right-click over the calendar you want to sync to Google. Select 'export calendar' and save the calendar somewhere memorable. In Google Calendar: Calendar Settings -> Calendar -> "Import Calendar". Select the file you just saved from Thunderbird. Boom. Done. Then set up a new Calendar in Thunderbird with the Google Provider extension and sync it with your Google Calendar. At this point, you'll have two identical calendars (hopefully) and the non-Google-synced one can go. Simple and very handy.

Excellent plugin. Simple to use. No problems here! Running Tbird 3.1.2 with Lightning 1.02b on Ubuntu Lucid.

Nice work.

===
To set it up I used:
in Thunderbird/calendar pane, right-click and click "New Calendar", "On the Network", "Google Calendar" paste in private address from Google Calendar Settings to get the private address (XML)
hope this helps to get going quickly

In the FAQ it talks about options to toggle event invite functionality. This is the ability to click accept on event invitations typically sent from Outlook.
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Calendar:GDATA_Provider#Why_can.27t_I_configure_any_options_in_the_Extension_Manager.3F

However, no combination of changing the advanced options enable this functionality. I need some means of accepting the events then syncing them to google calendar but there seems to be no way of doing that.

Otherwise, the addon is good, it just doesn't do what I need.
