I needed to filter my emails by date and this simplet yet powerful addon did it. Indeed, it should be included by default in Thunderbird!

Hi, all the shortcuts only apply to Windows, any hints what that would be on OS X? Thanks!

Which shortcuts are you refer to? The shortcut to focus on search bar or the shortcut for 'click to search'?
Thanks.

great stuff, thanks a lot.

a small suggestion: it would be great to be able to search SubFolders (ie, in between "search selected folder only" and "search all folders")

You can create a saved search folder, or use Ctrl+Enter to let the extension create one for you. Or use Shift+Enter to launch gloda search.

Hello Ken, thanks for GmailUI, I used it thousand times along the day. But now with TB 3.x I'm so glad wang did a new add-on with same functionality. No I'll do the change from TB 2 to TB3! I'm so happy!
Thanks a lot to you both!

Please update for TB3!

You can modify the install.rdf file contained within the .xpi and change the em:maxVersion value from 2 to 3. Not everything appears to still work, but at least you get j/k navigation back within Thunderbird 3.

I'm addicted to its search functionality!
But me too … I miss this extension in TB3, mainly the expression search. does anyone know something similar? as I saw that TB3 has completely "redesigned" the search part (gloda) of TB3, I'm not sure how complicated the update of the extension would be … ?!

I would be very happy with any developer that stepped up to make this extension work for Thunderbird 3!

Has anybody tested this extension in TB 3?

I've found one potential problem: function isThunderbirdV2 in gmailui.js. However, I haven't read much GmailUI's code.

I'm afraid that the developer stopped development of this extension: http://sites.google.com/site/kmixter/gmailui#TOC-Feedback-Suggestions-and-on-going-D

This add-on is AMAZING. I don't care about or use the gmail shortcuts per se, but the SEARCHING power blows away every other email client out there. I tried to use Evolution, but could not because I missed the search functionality that this extension brings to TBird. f:someone s:blah a:yes ... its brilliant!!!

Actually, I like the behaviour of Gmail, that it archives mails into label "directories", that's the function I'm looking for.

It's a nice start... but it would be good if more of the keys were bound (e.g., reply, reply-all, etc.), and maybe also if the keys were configurable.

This addon is useful but it's a real weakness that the keys are not configurable but the user. This is especially true for the use of the "J" key that is already configured by defaults in ThunderBird to send the selected email to the Junk folder. Now suddenly with this addon installed, the key becomes a "move selection" command. That's weird. Why not allow the user to assign his own key to the command? Much more complicated? Thanks anyways for your work, I'm still going to use the addon but I'm hoping for an update to solve this problem.

best Thunderbird add-on I've ever installed.

Although, an archive button would be nice (you hit y instead)

Second-best add-on I ever downloaded (after Smart Bookmarks Bar). I only use it for searching a notion or a word as global search in all of the mails. For that purpose, this add-on ads a new search term called "expression" as overall search in the existing search box. It's turbo fast. Will explore its other functions later.

Ok. I have to revise my rating. GMailUI DOES create the folder and move the e-mails over to that folder if it does not exist. It DOES NOT tell you it did this and the new folder does not appear until after you get out of ThunderBird and back in to it. So I've raised my rating from three stars (previous message which I can not edit/get rid of) to four stars. So this is just an update for all of you out there reading this. :-)

Although I really like this program I am now going to have to give it only three of five stars. Here's why:

1. If you do not set up the archive folder - this program just deletes the messages! (Learned that the hard way.) It should first check to see if the archive folder exists and if not - it should create it or say something to the user.

2. I was under the impression that the program actually "archived" (as in Zip/Tar/Gzip) the file. Or to put that another way - I'm already managing my messages but I wanted a quick & easy way to remove the messages to a separate file/folder so the overall number of messages in Thunderbird was reduced (thus making it faster). All the archive option does is to move things to another folder for you. Which, granted, is nice - but drag'n drop does that as well.

Because of my own, personal, misconception on how the archive feature worked - I've lost 1,500 e-mails and will have to retrieve them from backups.

The other features work very well though and if there was a way to rate each, individual, option - I'd give this program a higher rating.

I think this was one of the most useful extensions I've tried - until I moved to Thunderbird 3. Is any kind soul going to take over support of this add-on?
