As for Thunderbird 3, there is an experimental version for Thunderbird 3 on the mentioned page: http://forum.addonsmirror.net/index.php?showtopic=1906 (near the bottom of the main text, pointing to http://forum.addonsmirror.net/ext/extensions/T/TB_Header_Tools/TB_Header_Tools_0.7-Rod_Whiteley-tb3.xpi ).

I have tested the TB_Header_Tools_0.7-Rod_Whiteley-tb3.xpi with some releases of Thunderbird 3 in order to see whether perhaps the handling of IMAP has improved (by virtue either of a newer TB or of the new version of the addon); and here I report the results to help others decide whether they want count on this addon:

1) the 20090601 snapshot (thunderbird-3.0-alt1.20090601) on one system did fine with attachments in the modified messages over IMAP;

2) on a second system with thunderbird-3.0-alt1.20090601, it spoiled the attachments; so the success in 1) was just a coincidence (perhaps, due o more aggressive look-ahead caching that happened there)

3) on the second system with thunderbird-3.0-alt1.20090817, it is not working at all, with the error message "GetDBView is not defined" on line 286 in hdrtools.js (this can be seen in the error console).

As mentioned in other comments, the addon also spoils attachments over IMAP in TB 2.

So, no hope for editing headers over IMAP, unless we fix this problem.

Anyone know if there will be one for the latest version, 2.0.0.23?

Seems just what is needed to maintain email retrieval and storage by subject as well as date/time.

Tried the links from previous reviews, but links not available...

Great program, but as said before, you may lose the attachments of IMAP messages. To prevent this view the message's source code (Ctrl-U) before changing the header. This should force TB to download the complete message.
To avoid any risk, also activate the "Put Original message in Trash folder".

Really useful organisational tool to rename important emails (wrong subjects in titel etc) so to easily find them. I lost attachments when using it on IMAP messages==> solve this by changing headers locally and move the message back. I'm using new version 0.6.6 on 2.00.19 Great tool: thanks!!

While it does what it is suppose to, it makes attachments (PDF's) unusable. If I change the header on a file with a PDF attached, it won't let you open the attachment anymore, as it says the file is corrupt. I've tested this 6 times to make sure I'm accurate.

This is only for versions below 2, when will an update for 2.0.0.16 or more be available? Otherwise, any alternatives?

I downloaded version 0.6.6 from http://forum.addonsmirror.net/ext/extthunderbird/TB_Header_Tools_Extension_0.6.6.xpi. Nice tool, but doesn't work with IMAP and attachments (attachment is lost)

Works great except when e-mail has attachemnt. I use gmail and if I modify headers over IMAP the attachment is lost (goes to 0kb)

Probably the 2nd best extension I've tried! Primary usage is for changing the Subject of incoming msgs to something that has significance.

Now to find time to spend a day or so going back through years of kept msgs! Will start with Cybernet where there are only about 450!

Was a great tool! Where's the update for TB2?

This is what I have been looking for! It saves me a lot of boring, useless, error-prone, time-consuming work.
