I was led to Cardbook because I wanted an add-on that would sync address books with Google. Rather than just syncing address books, however, Cardbook is a feature-laden independent address book for Thunderbird. It integrates fully with Thunderbird, but it is accessed through a separate tab and operates independently of the regular TB address books. I like the way it presents the contact information and meets vcf standards. It also has many features such as eliminating duplicates, copying contacts between address books, finding emails linked with a given contact, and more. The only thing that I missed initially is the search function, which searches all fields. However, there is a simple way to create a temporary virtual address book by searching specific fields that provides the search functionality I am looking for. Setting up and linking to address books from many sources is easy, and you can import the existing TB address books, also.

The author is extremely responsive and diligent. I had a problem with my Google account syncing getting locked into a loop. He provided me with special versions to gather data. After some work, he tracked the issue to Google responding to sync commands in a strange way, and he created a fix for the issue in a new version. Based on my experience, I expect this add-on to be maintained and advanced regularly -- which gives me confidence to depend on it for a long time. Highly recommended!

Fantastic. To add my Google contacts, I had to:
- Open CardBook.
- Add a new address book within CardBook (via the hamburger menu).
- Select Remote.
- Select Google.
- Continue setup.
The automatic process did not work for me.
After setting this up, you have your Thunderbird address book (by default called Personal Address Book) and the new Google address book. You can click on All Contacts to see all the contacts at once. It does not sync between the existing Thunderbird address book (Personal Address Book) and the Google address book, but you have all your contacts and you can edit the Google ones within CardBook. The different address book have different colors in CardBook, so you can easily see which are which. I'm very happy with it so far.

The complement is perfect to synchronize contacs with google accounts.

Otherwise, from the two last update (2021/06/14) in edit dialog, when try to change the contact's image nothing happends. In older version works fine. If the image is in Google account imports it perfectly, and the image previosly charged are displayed.

Sincerely, congratulations to developpers team.

Opzoeken van adressen in een op te stellen nieuw bericht, werkt niet.

Looking up adresses in a new message doesn't work.

Cardbook has been a life saver after our previously used Google sync app didn't keep up with TBird changes. Then we ran in to a date sync issue affecting two of several devices. The developer with excellent communications and effort found a bug that was affecting a limited number of devices. CardBook and Philippe V. are The Best!

I discovered this extension when searching for a replacement solution for gContactSync (obsolete extension). CardBook is an excellent extension with great features, and well implemented. It fully replaces gContactSync, with additional features.
Thanks a lot

Finally a solution to deal with my address book needs for Google. This worked straight out of the box to sync my Google contacts with Thunderbird

Since gContactSync no longer works to sync Google contacts with Thunderbird, I was going to install CardBook but the required permissions made me decide not to. Why do they need "full, unrestricted access to Thunderbird, and your computer". Really? Why would I give them full unrestricted access to any file on my computer. I'm angry at Thunderbird for allowing this type of behavior. I used to love Thunderbird. I've used it for decades, but at the moment I hate Thunderbird, and am considering my options.

Hi

Yes, this window is frightening but this is the only way for add-ons to work as before. gContactSync had also "full, unrestricted access to Thunderbird, and your computer" but there was no popup window announcing that... that's a question of trust, all CardBook code is fully visible (here : https://gitlab.com/CardBook/CardBook/-/tree/master) is open source licenced, and trusted by almost 86000 users. So it's up to you :)

I've only used this for a couple of days; but so far I'm very impressed. A big improvement over the tried-and-true but no-longer-supported gContactSync. Very easy to use.

Most importantly, I ran into a very isolated bug when importing one of my Google address books. The author spent most of his Saturday diagnosing and solving the problem. VERY impressive support.

Merci beaucoup pour cette extension. La gestion et la modification des adresses sont donc beaucoup plus faciles.

Great add-on. Works well with Google contacts. I switched to Cardbook when gContactSync quit working and have never looked back.

Works great for syncing my contacts from my Android phone with Thunderbird! When I need to send an email, I mostly do it from my mobile phone. I don't use Gmail, but my contacts are stored in Google Contacts. Sometimes it is useful to have my email on my laptop, so I installed Thunderbird. It took some time googling and looking through extension reviews before I picked this one. After installing it took some more googling before I figured out how I could link the address book with Google Contacts, but it was just a matter of finding the right item in the menu. Thanks for creating this extension!

This addon is great, but there is a visual problem. Some panels are using the system theme instead of your chosen thunderbird theme and it ends up looking very weird. Example: https://i.imgur.com/VqnVIDG.jpg

This is happening in Linux but maybe it also happens on Windows, but since default Windows theme is similar to the theme of Thunderbird it doesn't look so weird on Windows.

which theme do you use ? I don't have this on Ubuntu... (cardbook (at) cardbook.icu)

Bonne continuation. Jean-Luc

EDIT: I have updated to 5 stars. The developer is very quick to respond and provide the information to allow this to work. That type of service is incredible. It is a 5 star product when it works. I'm thinkng that the latest Thunderbird update created some issues.

Developer provided a new .xpi that I could not get from Thunderbird. Surprisingly great customer service.

Prior review: Honest to god, why cant someone do a program that just plain works. 2 problems: I cannot add a contact - PERIOD no matter how many times I try.

edit again....it is not downloading current google contacts. very disappointing as I am running on 4 machines and now must look elsewhere.

It does not even sync anymore. I deleted and added again...no luck.

Also, as someone mentioned, I cannot scroll down without it going back to the top.

If these issues have been fixed, putting them out to resolve would help.

Center pane scrolls down, but instantly shoots right back up to the top. Not really usable this way...

this behaviour only happens during a sync... I should improve this...

The developer is very responsive and fixed the issue in just a few days with many emails back and forth to understand the problem. He even came out with 2 new versions during that time to resolve it. Very impressive.
