My Reviews

Update Notifier

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I like this one. I put it in my "Apollo! Pack!" collection because it is one more thing to make using Firefox better. I noticed lots of people are asking for the 4 version but I urge people to skip the ever buggy 4 and just run 3.6 until they finally fix 4 or maybe 5 will have it together...

Certificate Patrol

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I held off on reviewing this one for a while because I needed to test it out and to do some more homework but now I am putting it into my "Apollo! Pack"! collection because it is one more step in the right direction. It alone is not going to secure your computer but it is one more step. Why Firefox doesn't do more to check certificates is a mystery.

It isn't very tough to set up and configure and it sure beats saving images one at a time! After testing it out for a while it is going in my "Apollo! Pack!" collection because it is one that people should have.

Does Netticat ever make a bad add-on? Once again she beats the competition and makes another good add-on. This one is in my "Apollo! Pack!" collection and it is very handy to have for people to have when you have nobody untrustworthy looking over your shoulders.

Massive Extender

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It appears that they did get the new version out but it is listed as experimental so far. It doesn't show when I did searches for it but it can be found. If you scroll down to the bottom of the "ME" page and look for "list all versions" the 1.0b1 version is the one working for 4.0

EDIT2 ** A few months later I am attempting to install it for TB 3.11 but it failed there. It would have been nice to be able to install collections on TB

Ixquick HTTPS Privacy Search Engine

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I put this one in my "Apollo!" Pack" for a big reason! The fact is companies like Google cannot be trusted and they keep too much of your information on file. Companies such as them will keep it for 6+ months and it all can be given to marketers, big brother, divorce attornies... Yuck!! I have to say I read a number of the other reviews and I wont repeat what others said very well earlier. I also would rather trade a few ads- and since when has stinky old Google been ad-free??- for the privacy. Lastly, I want to respond to Bamail. I hear what you are saying but Ixquick isn't really what failed you. Although private mode is good- it by no means is complete security. I am not just saying it to promote my collection but mine has a COMPLETE security package with detailed instructions. To get the job done you need to take care of a bunch of things such as scripts, cross-site requests, cookies, IP, redirects, proxies... If you do ALL of those things and configure them properly then you get to the promised land. No single one will do it all.

PhotoBucket Search With Suggestions

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I put this one in my "Apollo! Pack" collection because it is a great way to search for pictures- and many of them have to be seen to be believed! Once you look for one you could spend hours there...

Google Image Swirl

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Before I put anything in my "Apollo! Pack" collection I test them out and see how they really work in real life situations. This one I don't use all that often- but when I did it performed well. It looks like this one is on the rise.

Eccellio Web - Search Engine

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I hesitated for a while because it was powered by Google to use it or include it in my "Apollo! Pack" collection because it was powered by Google- but this one stands out because it does a FAR better job of focusing the results. That is the key that makes this one stand out.

Eccellio Science - Search Engine

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I put it in my "Apollo! Pack" collection because I am heavily into science and this one helps to separate the wheat from the chaff.

NASA Images Search

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I put this one in my "Apollo! Pack" collection because the images rock! They have to be seen to be believed! Anyone who doesn't believe in the space program clearly has not seen just what is out there and what is being done.

SweetSearch

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This really works for filtering out the junk. You would think using searches by the evil "G" empire would give you lots of good information right? Wrong! All you are getting is search overload, spam, conspiratorial hogwash, pseudoscience and the like! I put it in my "Apollo! Pack" collection to give thinking people a better tool for finding sound information.

Google Images

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Although I find Google itself stinky this alternate search for the pictures is good.

100 Search Engines for Firefox

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

For big searches this sure is a nice alternative to you-know-who! I put it in my "Apollo! Pack" collection and I would suggest giving it a try.

Wikipedia

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I put it in my "Apollo! Pack" collection since it is just a faster way to get to the pages really.

Dictionary.com

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have used it countless times and I put it in my "Apollo! Pack" collection.

Image Zoom

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This should have come standard with FF. I put it in my "Apollo! Pack" collection and maybe in future updates they will include it.

RefControl

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I put this one in my "Apollo! Pack" collection and I would urge people not to surf without it. Alone it wont give you total security but combined with others such as "Noscript", "Request Policy" and others you will give yourself almost bulletproof security and privacy. Virtually every angle of attack will be shut down and you can surf with peace of mind.

FlashGot Mass Downloader

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I really like it and I split using it with other video apps in my "Apollo! Pack" collection- but it does have one flaw I wish they would correct. It does have the benefit of grabbing videos that other apps fail to grab- but the flaw is by default it grabs freakin everything on the page and you have to go in and delete all the garbage and only keep the video. Perhaps future updates can correct that.

Crash Report Helper

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

** EDIT- PLEASE UPDATE FOR 4. THANK YOU.** I put this one in my "Apollo! Pack" collection and I recommend it because it is one more way of showing what really is going on made simple for the common user. It helped to prove my point that running lots of add-ons DOES NOT cause more crashes! I have observed that running lots of them slows your initial startup of FF but can potentially make browsing much faster- and safer, ad-free, more functional... Sure you can run Chrome( a stripped down ad- delivery service!) for pure speed but is a small startup boost worth all that agony and probably much slower, dangerous and ad-filled surfing? I vote to run Firefox!
