I have lost reminderfox since Firefox was updated to version 57. How can I get reminderfox to work again?

Hello
Starting with Firefox Quantum (version 57), Mozilla is ditching the old addon framework (which they call “Legacy addons”) and only supporting addons using a new web-based framework.

Unfortunately long-story short: as this is a passion side-project, we do not have the time and resources to do a complete rewrite of ReminderFox to make it work with the new framework at this time. Please see this thread for further background: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/reminderfox/ZX3Hsm3R1jU/MU0S50LhEAAJ

What can you do?

1) One option is to install Firefox ESR (Extended Service Release) which will continue to work with legacy addons into next year. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/?q=English%20(US)

You could run that and continue to run ReminderFox, but even then it will only be a short-term solution. You could at least print out your ReminderFox reminders or export them to ICS format which allows you to import into another calendar app (MS Outlook, Google calendar, et c.).

You can also run Pale Moon (a version of Firefox which supports legacy addons) or Mozilla Thunderbird mail client, where ReminderFox will continue to run.

2) Grab your reminder data (it should not be lost, even though ReminderFox is not showing in the latest Firefox), and import it into another calendar or reminder app.

If you just want to get ahold of your reminder data to import into another program, you can find it as part of your user profile directory. For example, on Windows7:

c:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{someRandomNumber}.default\reminderfox\reminderfox.ics

3) Find another alternative add-on that runs on current Firefox Quantum and has the capabilities that you need.

One example is: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/reminders/

This is pretty poor - no warning, just automatic update to 57 - and whoosh, all my data is gone from reminder-Fox! AND the available versions of reminder-Fox are not compatible with 57.

Get your act together - I just donated some money!

There's another Google calendar for web extensions, but it doesn't even come close to how nice THIS addon has been for many years.. Plus that other one feels almost like tease-ware.

In any case, thank you so much for creating this addon.. And I hope you're able to port it over.

Your latest release of ReminderFox was in June 2017. At that time the latest stable release of SeaMonkey was 2.46 . Yet you only support SM up to version 2.21. Why?

As I write this, SM has since released 2.48. Please update your support for SeaMonkey.

Dear Developers,

Thanks for all your hard work. This extension has been great! Been using it for years

As Mozilla seems to be making future development/updates of really great extensions “precarious” I wanted to find out if this update will be problematic or breakdown in the future? In other words should I stay where I’m at?

I’m currently using the last version. I’ve disabled auto updates because new FF compliance's have already broken a few extensions (or will cause breakdown in the future). The first example of this coming to mind is/was X-Notifier. The last two versions are FF compliant, but don’t function. They…. suck. Not the developers fault, he warned months ago this would happen with Moz changing policies and updates. Yet everyone initially screamed at him when it broke down. There was a temporarily a work around, rolling back 2 versions. This made everything work again, but then with another FF update, even the legacy version only partly works.

So In regards to your extension, would you recommend updating to the latest version, or stay with the previous one which I’m running?

My Machine; Window 7 64 bit, latest FF 64 bit version for windows.

One more issue, and if you don’t have time for this one no problem.

I’ve read that if users install FF 52 ESR (I’m not sure what it is and if it’s secure), all legacy versions will work. Wouldn’t using a legacy version of FF, as well as extension present a security risk?

This really sucks for FF developers and users. I really hate Chrome, it’s heavy on resources, super proprietary, nosy and intrusive as hell. I have no idea why Moz is killing the best part of FF, the extensions. Especially security and utilities extensions. The other stuff I could care less.

Also, if Moz is going to make life difficult to impossible (depending on which developer you’re talking to, and their extension) for developers, why don’t you all go to Opera? I’m betting a lot of people would follow.

It’s my second choice browser, and although it’s Chromium based, it’s lightweight and even has a VPN built in. But they have mostly lame apps.

You’re opinion/feedback on this whole Moz turning FF into Chrome and how to proceed would be appreciated!

Thanks for every thing!

This is the best caldav tool for Firefox. Just one is available:) It's pretty functional, but stuck in 90's with design, just like the browser itself. Unlike Chromium(R), you can't have sticky popup dialog to quickly grab data from a note, which people want to do often (a note must be quick to access, it's a note! not a Word document). In fact a new window is open, spawning a new bar in Windows taskbar, so as you switch between apps to paste data, you will have hard time to return to Firefox. And yet another windows opens to actually read anote. Then after utilizing the data copied, one needs to find those 2 windows and close them manually. 90s!
Still a great plugin, ez to plug a source from EAS mail provider. The hint system is impressive. Sorry for lot of irony, but transition from Chromium to Firefox is extremelly painful, I wish it all gets better otherwise FF loses remaining 10% market share if ppl not willing to change their mindset to 10's. And that's a sad fact:/
