If I enable the birthday calendar with the new 1.0.1/1.0.2 version, Thunderbird freezes for five seconds every time I change the week or change the view or anything in the calendar, making it essentially unusable. But the new version apparently conflicts with ThunderBirthday, which was working fine.

My rating is for past and, hopefully, future performance of this add-on. Reading between the lines, it seems to me that the issue might be that Google's quota for sync requests has changed. So, whereas at one time, it might have been possible to upgrade Provider for Google Calendar (PGC) and painlessly re-sync all calendar items, now it's impossible to re-sync an entire calendar, and PGC is, in effect, broken by the upgrade. If my guesswork is anywhere near the truth, would it make sense to make PGC sync only a small portion of the calendar initially--maybe current month and one month prior and ahead. Then, sync the remainder gradually over time? If a Google policy change has resulted in 1.0.2 being broken, it seems unlikely to me that a server-side fix is forthcoming. But you know Google better than I do...

Only syncing a small part will make it really hard to figure out which events have been synced and which haven't, and also more requests in the long run. In theory things should calm down soon: once everyone has done their initial sync, all future syncs are incremental and will only require one request. I've bumped the results per request by a large number in 1.0.2, so even with a full sync it should be less requests.

I've been using Provider and Lightning for at least 2 years. Never a problem until the recent updates. 1st I was getting annoying Google Logins everytime I opened Thunderbird. Then the calender stopped syncing. That was fixed by removing old calenders (that were setup a long time ago) and re-installing. That worked great until this latest 1.0.2 update came. Asking for login again. Now quota exceeded. I've about had it.

For your question, I have been using this for over 5 years and this is the first time I ever remember having a issue. This is a great addon and worth a contribution to the developer.

FYI, I do not believe there is even an alternative that is close to this.

Agree with the previous comments - great add-on, easily worth $10. If you question that, go price Outlook (also known as look-out). I'm in for $10.

While it has been frustrating, I also appreciate this add on. I went back to the previous version for now but also donated $10 to the cause. I am sure it will be fixed soon.

This add-on deserves 5 stars as it has been doing exactly what it is supposed to. Some update that broke current version doesn't trash the whole thing, and no doubt the author will fix it.

The only way I've found to make this work is the following:
1. Install Provider 0.32.
2. Restart Thunderbird.
3. Go to Add-ons Manager, click on Provider and then on "More". Scroll down and disable automatic updates.

Version 0.32 works perfectly and that's why I'm giving you 5 stars, plus it's my way to show my support to the project. For now, I'll just stick with that version. Unfortunately, I'm unable to get versions 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 to work.

My Google calendar is know working with read/write access.

I tried creating calendars with and without this add-on, using the links provided by Google and they didn't work. Then I read Paulo Costa's message below, and it did. So I'm repeating it!

-------------------------------------------------
For anyone saying that Lighting doesn't support Google Calendar anymore or that Provider for Google Calendar now doesn't work, see https://blog.mozilla.org/calendar/2013/09/google-is-changing-the-location-url-of-their-caldav-calendars/. The method described there for adding a writable Google Calendar totally works.

The relevant paragraph is the one titled "How do I set up the new calendar?"

P.S. I've given the add-on 5 stars because it worked great for the last 4 years, but I'm removing it now...

Seriously, developer IS trying to fix the problems that came after an update of mozilla ! Why give him the 1 star ratings because it is not working currently after the update ? He should get 5 stars for effort alone ! The addon is great. Temporary not working but I am convinced it will work again in a few hours or days.

Thanks in advance for your great effort ! Appreciated.

(Also just tried the 1.0.2 and with me it also is currently not working)

I found the fix
1. delete/remove this add-on
2. use the CalDAV method described here
https://blog.mozilla.org/calendar/2013/09/google-is-changing-the-location-url-of-their-caldav-calendars/

2a. Open the new calendar dialog (File → New → Calendar)
2b. Add a new remote calendar (On the Network → CalDAV)
As a location enter the following, be sure to replace your email address(your-email-address):

https://apidata.googleusercontent.com/caldav/v2/your-email-address/events

We have the same problem. We can see old events, but we can't add new one or edit old events. We can only add event on google calendar (gmail) and then sync thunderbird calendar. How can we fix it?

[edit, 2014/10/23] The Update 1.0.2 works 1 day only. Thanks @ Philipp for fast bugfix! But now I see no events, after sync same result; Only the holyday calendar of google works in read-only-Mode [edit]
I installed latest version 1.0.1, but it doesn't works, First I receive everytime the error with not enough quota and the calendar will switched off by itself. If I switch it on and I see a 1 sec sync and it shows nothing or not all events. Can't create new events.
