Great execution of an obvious shortcoming in Firefox...this should be a default option;
Another option I would personally love to see, as it pertains to the bookmarking dialog, is to have the location/folder that you selected for the previous bookmark already selected as the default location--so that if you wanted to save a bunch of links in the same folder/location, simply hitting CTRL-D would achieve that, instead of having to constantly make the selection in the dropdown menu.

Worth installing to be able to resize the bookmarks popup!

All well and good, but I need to edit descriptions of bookmarks more than anything else. Is there any other bookmark addon that does this?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.2.3.1-signed).

To show description of bookmark popup, you will need to make change to a preference. Open about:config in a new tab. Check 'I'll be careful' and click ok. On preferences list type extensions.editbookmarkplus.showDescription in the search box. Now double click the prefernce to change its value to true.

Once the value is set to True, you should see the description field.

This Add-On is not doing much.
The only interesting feature is the resize of the bookmark PopUp Window.
I had previously "Add Bookmark here" but this is broken at the moment with Firefox 16, the folders don't expand, so I tried this Add-On.
Unfortunately there is no description and no shortcut field, two of the most important fields I know from Add Bookmarks Here.
So uninstall and waiting for a fix on Add Bookmarks Here :(

Exactly what I needed to resolve the issue with Firefox's add bookmark window being unusably small and poorly designed.

Now I can make the add bookmark navigation window as big as I need to.

Drag/re-size tab location is a bit odd, (left corner vs right) but it works.

Great add-on! It's a much needed replacement to Openbook. It greatly simplifies adding bookmarks and organizing them. Plus, the author is really responsive to bug reports. I submitted a new bug report introduced by the update to Firefox 16, and he posted a new version of Edit Bookmark Plus which fixes the bug within a few hours of my report.

On Firefox 14 the resize indicator isn't visible. Still a major improvement being able to resize dialog again without necessity of userChrome.css
Thanks a lot.

After installing this add-on, I could enlarge the "bookmark this page" pop-up window, and the enlarged size is remembered. In that pop-up, the bookmarks tree is now shown by defaut. Much more convenient. Thanks.

One of the most usefull addons that I need on every firefox installation that I use on every computer, even if they are not mine.
I hated it that mozilla always forces me to scroll in that tiny window to search for the appropiate directory for storing the new bookmark.
Now finally I can resize it as big as the height of my monitor reaching a fantastic overview over the bookmark tree.

For years I used OpenBook to resize the bookmarks popup, but after updating to Firefox 13.0 it no longer worked, so I went looking for a replacement and found Edit Bookmark Plus. It works just fine. The popup is easy to resize and makes it so much easier to see all your bookmarks so you can put a new one in the most suitable folder. A really handy option is the ability to disable the popup autohide so the popup doesn't disappear when you unintentionally (or intentionally) click outside it, which is very annoying.

Why Mozilla hasn't built all this into Firefox is a mystery to me. The default popup is waaaay too small which makes it difficult to find a particular bookmarks folder. But luckily there are clever add-on makers like Kashif who can fix such problems. Thanks, Kashif!

Hi there!
It would be very useful to add an option to each bookmark or bookmark folder so when you open it, the tabs used are automatically pinned as apps.

Thanks a lot!!

Excellent replacement for the discontinued OpenBooks extension. Bookmarking has long been the most stale feature in Firefox, as it is hardly updated. Edit Bookmarks Plus provides several options to make the bookmarking experience more convenient and overall more pleasant.

A few weeks ago, OpenBook stopped working after a FireFox update (why is it updated so often??), and this time, not even editing the "MaxVersion" field in the .rdf file worked because FireFox seemed to no longer support that .rdf format or something.

So I had to find a new replacement for it, and Edit Bookmark Plus did just that! Thank you Kashif!

You'd wonder why the FireFox developers don't just incorporate this functionality into FireFox already!! How is having to click on those little "dropdown arrows" EVERYTIME you want to bookmark a page, good design?? Thank God we have generous coders like Kashif that are willing to give of their time to fix FireFox's shortcomings! hehehe

Can't uninstall? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I installed this and it looks like a good replacement for "OpenBook", but one of my other add-ons has stopped working so I tried uninstalling Edit Bookmarks Plus again to check whether it was causing a clash.

But after uninstalling and restarting Firefox, the re-sizable Add Bookmark window is still there.

How do we uninstall your add-on????

Reply by Kashif Iqbal Khan (Developer) on January 21, 2012 #

I suppose that you mean that add bookmark window has larger size even after installing edit bookmark plus. If this is the case, install the addon, again, make the popup appear and re-size it to normal size. Afterwards when you uninstall addon, your window will appear in size that you left it at.

This is an issue in remembering the width and height of popup which will be fixed in later version.

By the way, can you tell me the addon name that conflicted and the issue that you faced? I might fix it if it can be.

------------------------------------

Thanks for the swift reply and explanation, I was just concerned that I didn't seem to be uninstalling completely.

The first issue I had was with an old version of my default theme - "Firefox2 the Theme Reloaded" v0.9.9 as the bookmarks tree wouldn't resize. I've updated that now to v2.0 and your add-on works fine with it.

The other issue I'm having is with "Old Location Bar 2.1.6" - where several features don't work in my new FF9 (notably the "Go" arrow and getting rid of the Star) but uninstalling your add-on made no difference to it, so the problem lies elsewhere!

So no problems at your end! Thanks again.

Today’s PC users create more bookmarks than ever: long lists and folders and sub-folders full of them, but Mozilla hasn’t kept up. As great as Firefox truly is (with extensions: the best!), its bookmark creation function has the same old choke point it and its competition have had since day one: FILING.

Specifically, the Firefox bookmark creation & filing function uses a window so small that its user's view through it at any particular moment is limited to just a portion of their bookmark collection. In other words, Firefox forces users to scroll their bookmark directories up and down and side to side through this little window, searching narrowly until they get to the spot where they want to file their new bookmarks. Often users (like me) just file their new bookmarks in a temp folder instead. They delay final filing decisions until later when an easier, secondary and larger Firefox "Show All Bookmarks" window can be used, but that’s just plain counter-productive.

Edit Bookmark Plus remedies this by enabling the user to permanently enlarge the Firefox bookmark creation & filing window (nearly as large as the monitor’s screen if so desired) thereby providing a truly great view of their bookmarks from a tall root list to extensively wide sub-folder levels. The outcome is users deciding quickly and comprehensively from the “get-go” where best to file their bookmarks at the very moment they’re creating them.

For those of us who collect and organize a lot of bookmarks this is an excellently helpful extension! At this point I only wonder if it’s the first of its kind among all browsers. If so, it deserves extra credit. Thank you very much Kashif Iqbal Khan for your extension. BTW, I use this extension with Firefox 10 and the Firefox default theme.

It's great that this addon gives you the basic option of being able to resize the Firefox bookmarking dialogue. Though lets face it Firefox is lacking so severely in this regard and many others it's getting ridiculous how many addons are needed just to keep Firefox sensible lately.

While it's a welcome feature it would be nicer if it did more, perhaps replaced the archaic bookmarking dialogue with something better altogether with better features like, the dialogue not closing if it looses focus, allow the user to move it around, allow the user to copy text from the page they're bookmarking so they can paste it into the description of the bookmark they're creating, auto collapse all bookmark directories so it doesn't have to be done manually or else they will eventually all be expanded making it harder to find the location you want to store the new bookmark.

This is one of the features in Firefox where just about anything you throw at it would be an improvement.

It would make the addon more worthwhile adding such features other than just being able to resize something which should be there to being with.

Version 2.0 works great. Could not say the same for 1.0 so if uninstalled try again.

Very nice to see some action for bookmark feature and fixes for obvious annoyances. I see no visual or practical features being developed, for years. Have looked at that little window and wondered 100s of times. CSS hack worked for a while though. And now database even seems to run decent. Just weird, but this plugin to the rescue for what it does.
