You are welcome MilAdrian to post bugs in thunderbayes.googlecode.com, 1.0.1.14 will probably solve all the problems you noted
Remember ThunderBayes++ support from v3 to now, if you are still on 1 or 2 then stick with ThunderBayes original

Please please please please make this work with TB3. The continuation project doesn't work with TB3...

I have registered on this site just to thank you for your time and effort on this add-on. I agree that not having IMAP is a problem but that is no reason to leave the one star comments and to be so negative. It is not a clever thing to do and does not achieve anything.
If you do rewrite the code to include IMAP then I will be one very happy person and be very grateful for your trouble. If you don't then 5 stars anyway for all the work you have done!

I installed this and uninstalled a few minutes later just after reading the author's blog (http://pieces.openpolitics.com/2008/04/the-state-of-thunderbayes/):

"Unfortunately I do not have the time nor the will to fix it at this point... I do hope some people can still get some use out of the add-on, but at this point I am declaring it unsupported by me. "

As such, it should be deleted from this repository.

I have given this extension a pretty good work out for several weeks on three email accounts, using Windows Vista. The more I use it the less favorable I feel about it.

Pros: *It does a reasonable job of removing most spam.
*It installs easily (but doesn't uninstall as easily).

Cons: *With three accounts, email retrieval gets slower and slower the more it is used.
*You can't deactivate it. Email stops working completely, unless you go in and reset all the ports, etc.
*The learning curve, for both the program and I, is extremely long and I am not an amateur.
*The spam goes to the trash, but the trash is often not emptied on exit as it is set to do.
*There always seems to be some emails that are obviously junk, but you still have to click on the icon to get rid of it.

Summary: The extension is on the right track and almost works. But you still have to keep a close eye on things. If you look at the parent site, the developers have put a lot of work into it and continue to do so. For now it appears Thunderbird's built in filters will suit my purpose.

In my particular environment (XP) it didn't work. Once installed, my entire Thunderbird slowed to a crawl, taking 15 minutes just to start (on a dual core machine with 2 GB memory). I couldn't find an answer. While looking, I found this announcement by the author back in April that it had known bugs but he neither used it any more, nor was he going to work on it. See http://pieces.openpolitics.com/2008/04/the-state-of-thunderbayes/

The filtering is great and saves me time. The only con is that it becomes slower and slower as more definitions/words are added. Wish it would filter after the messages are downloaded so it wouldn't timeout with the mail server.

It takes awhile to setup correctly, and you have to have a little knowledge of what you're doing to do so. However, once it's setup, I've found this add-on to filter spam far better than Thunderbird's built-in filters... perfectly, even.

Just keep in mind that this works by filtering mail as it comes in BEFORE it even gets to thunderbird using a daemon that runs in the background. To configure it, you have to use its built-in web-interface (accessible from the add-on's configuration screen). The add-on itself facilitates the interface between thunderbird and the daemon, so sorting junk mail and keeping the filter up to date works just as easily as thunderbird's built-in filter... Brilliant.

Works great when it works but the errors -- sporadicly crashing, forgetting it’s settings, disabling itself -- are a PITA. Would’ve been nice if there’d been better support (see the man's site ... 59 comments on the Oct'07 release but nothing happening). As it is I've had to “Uninstall” it, and fix up all of my TB accounts after it was gone. :(

I had some trouble installing this, and it took me a while to find the Options page under Addins to configure where the files go when you manually designate spam or ham. The author's website has basic instructions, but more specific would be nice for those of us not as technically versed. But once I got it the extension worked orders of magnitude better than the built-in junk filter after training only about 20 emails. I did have to manually adjust the SpamBayes configuration for multiple POP3 accounts (see the message from Head Geek in the discussions) after I set the account settings options within Thunderbird. Great tool -- even better with better instructions and if the multiple accounts configuration issue could be addressed.

It's excellent at identifying spam; pretty good at identifying possible spam (though a blatant Viagra mail slipped through - maybe I haven't trained it enough yet). One minor point is that even though I've made a new 'Spam' folder and checked the box in the prefs to move spam to it, at the moment Thunderbayes doesn't seem to want to move the mail from my inbox. But overall a very useful addition to Thunderbird's built in junk filter, especially if you're being bombarded by f*****g spammers. Set up is very easy if you're thinking about trying it out. One of the best Thunderbird add-ons I've installed.

Spam was a great problem with the implemented Spam Tools in Thunderbird. The recognition rate of that tool is very bad.
Very different is Thunderbayes. After a training the recognition rate is very good and the unsure Function is a great help.
In Version 1.01 the handling was also greatly improved and is now good.
Thank you for the great Tool! Now I have not really a Spam problem anymore :-)
