Seriously, Dave Kimble. People are going to remember your name. Just because you are frustrated--meaning the job was too difficult for you.... You don't have strike at the whole community. Having a high rating brings this revolutionary software popularity, so that the developer can generate the donations and interest necessary to speed the development process and fix bugs.

My Review:
This is a great add-on. It is easy for me to understand. I run websites off of it to show programmers my designs, when text isn't enough. Very fun and easy to learn. I am interested in trying to integrate some Drupal modules.

Wow Dave Kimble... just wow...

Do it yourself you lazy bum... it's open source... but noooo.... instead you'd rather complain, whine, and rate a great add-on 1 star... because you're either too impatient to wait or too ignorant to do it yourself...

If you have a bug report, e-mail it to the developer, no need to review a bug... or to state it more accurately a feature request.

Sadly... I think ren8ren might have more class than you....

For a temporary solution just use a portable stand-alone Firefox of 3.5 or younger...

2 May 2010 downloaded POW v0.1.9 into FF 3.6.3 - install failed. The install.rdf file still says MaxVersion is 3.5 . I edited it to 3.6.* but it still doesn't work. FF > Tools > Add-ons > is frozen with a bleep for every click.

Great work! This will help so much in making a portable app, especially since javascript is a win language!

Although Unicode support would be nice ;-) if you ever get to it

Please add unicode support. I use chinese and it don't work. Thanks!

Hello David,
Just wanted to be the first to congratulate you on the 100,000th download... I love the ability to have to have a browser/server/database running on a usb disk that I can take with me anywhere. Plays quite well with Portable Apps version of firefox... at least in my case.

Slap on the JavaScrypt client side encryption and you can encrypt all your data using 256-bit -AES on the client before sending it off to pow to store it in SQL Lite.
Link: http://www.fourmilab.ch/javascrypt/

Combine
a USB Disk
Portable Firefox
POW Server
Firebug
JavaScrypt
jQuery

And you have a quick pure JavaScript way to develop nice applications that you can take with you.

Kudos, and I'll be back here to congratulate you on your one millionth download.

This has to be the easiest way for a web developer to be up and running in no time. Accolades to Mr. Kellogg.

I wrote my first computer program back in 1985. I was writing in a long-forgotten programming language known as "RPG II" for an IBM System 34 mini-computer. (Mini-computers were not what you think -- they were room-sized devices to which one connected dozens of dumb terminals.) Over the years, I got pretty good at coding and whenever I needed a computer to do something for me, I'd knock off a quick program to do it. Some of the programs I wrote were even sold to professional magazines so that others could copy my code.

But for the last ten years, I've been working on PCs (until a year ago, Windows-based PCs) and have no experience with programming them. I did learn Perl, which I use to write short programs (scripts) on Linux servers for websites. But I've found no easy way to write a useable program on my PC.

I've long thought it would be wonderful if I could use a language I know (Perl) on a platform I use (the PC) and get back to the stage where I was a decade ago, writing programs to meet my needs.

As of yesterday, that problem is solved. I have just written my first application (a small group of programs) -- a powerful task list (to-do list) manager. I am now using this instead of the various programs I have used in the past, such as the Gnome To Do list, KDE Kalendar, and web-based lists such as Remember the Milk, TaDa List and so on.

How was I able to do this?

First of all, there's a wonderful Mozilla Firefox plugin call POW -- that's short for Plain Old Webserver.

Once you set it up, which takes five seconds and no technical skills, you can run Perl (or PHP, Ruby, JavaScript, or Python) applications on your PC -- and the interface is your web browser.

As I am now using Ubuntu Linux as my operating system, and I knew that Perl came pre-installed.

Seconds after setting up POW, I had the classic "Hello world" program running and a few minutes later, a rudimentary to-do list. It couldn't have been easier.

The fantastic thing about this is the ability to create completely customized software, including all the features I want, no matter how crazy, and not including the stuff I don't need.

I've now got a very powerful, customized task list running in my browser (in fact, it's my browser's home page) and am looking forward now to writing other applications.

Thanks to David Kellog for creating POW.

This is an awesome add-on, especially for techs with laptops. It's great for running a temporary light server (especially off of a laptop) for security patches, Firefox itself for other computers, etc...

I am a community college math instructor and using pow have coded a quiz taking url that is on my memory stick (that I take everywhere) that grades my quizes and stores it in my sqllite db. The path feature does not work in pow but i just use the default path. life is good. i am stress testing this thing next week when classes start. i'll have about 20 students in a class taking the quiz and submitting the program. i have a dynamic ip address i get from ipconfig and have the students put it in the browser to take the quiz. when i am done i put the stick in my pocket move to a new class and repeat the procedure. very clean implementation - elegant. the example code was perfect for me to get up and rolling. if i ever made money on this you can bet your a__ i will toss some royalties at the creaters of pow and sqllite and firefox and portableapps.......
