which is sad

This is such an essential add-on for anyone typing in more than one language in Firefox, unfortunately, it hasn't been updated in a while and doesn't work well with e.g. Gmail, it can freeze the whole Firefox for short amounts of time, etc. But it's a really good idea.

Sadly not compatible with Thunderbird 38 any more, since in that version the spell check language in the compose windows has been decoupled from the preference.

To have this to work in Firefox:
You have to manually go into about:config and changed - extensions.dictionary-switcher.autodetect to true. But some times I have to get in to about:config again to switch in on, off and on again to work, even if it's "on" in extensions.dictionary-switcher.autodetect. Then it work again to switches languages.

To do this on Thunderbird:

Go in to in Thunderbird: Options>Advanced>Config Editor set this as 'true'
extensions.dictionary-switcher.autodetect

I hope they will fix this. Also autodetect as I write does not work. I'm on Windows 10, and with a clean installed OS, and only two language installed in Firefox.

This switcher should had been an included part of Firefox and Thunderbird.

Funktioniert nun endlich mit der neuen Generation von Wörterbüchern (Stichwort „restartless“) – vielen Dank für das Update!

I know it worked once but now i had the problem that it turned to english but i couldnt manually change it back. Eventually it turned back later alone but now im searching the button to change it. Its nowhere to found. I checked the dialogs with firefox, opened all bars in there and i dont see it. Whats up?

I use English and Hebrew and it does not work for me.
Also after I went to about:config and changed - extensions.dictionary-switcher.autodetect to true.

I have been using this add-on for years in Thunderbird, and I was happy with it. I have found it indispensable, for multi-lingual users, and there are many of us out there. I have no idea when it stopped working, and thought that there is probably a bug which will be fixed. It was not. So I tried other add-ons, and used a different one for a while, than that one disappeared, tried this one again... It was not until now, when I have found in a review by tunayx (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/dictionary-switcher/reviews/667322/) that you need to get into the config and turn the automatic recognition on manually:

Options>Advanced>Config Editor set this as 'true'
extensions.dictionary-switcher.autodetect

I could not imagine that this need to be done manually - please warn users, as you will loose them otherwise. It would, of course, be better if it could be turned on from add-on options.

I also have a compatibility issue with my favourite add-on 'Thunderbird Conversations' - it would be great, if the autoswitching would work in the quick reply.

But it is a fantastic and very important add-on, once the user figures out how to turn it on. Keep up the good work!

When I type in a text field it causes the content process to crash when I type in textfields when electrolysis is enabled.
So I guess it's incompatible with e10s and needs an update otherwise it causes constant crashes.
It also fails to switch dictionaries on ever more pages.

Guess it's time to let go...
This was a great add-on, before rtf invaded the editors. Now, it doesn't even switch language when the button is clicked.

It do work with Thunderbird, this is how to enable it:

Options>Advanced>Config Editor set this as 'true'
extensions.dictionary-switcher.autodetect

When switching to another tab, and then switching back, the selected language is again the wrong one. The "automatic detection" also seems to trigger at random intervals.

I have to correct this extension's decisions every time the conventional way, at least every time I switch back from another tab. This is frustrating and just creates more work.

Stopped working? I cannot switch on gmail.com

Excelente, indispensable

Quite smart, and it usually works great. I cannot make it work on Thunderbird though (or FossaMail which I now use). It's a 5-star with TB working.

A suggestion: add a "priority switch" for the English language. Some users might usually or always prefer en-GB instead of en-US (or en-AU etc.)

An interesting example of dictionaries.

As the previous review says, only one line needs to be changed to make this addon work in recent TB versions :)

But what he suggests is for making it work in Firefox. To make it work in Thunderbird, change the same line, but in file mail.js (inside dictionary-switcher.jar!/chrome/content).

Manual fix for version 1.3.2:
Changing line 49 of content/browser.js (dictionary-switcher.jar) to
var spellchecker = Components.classes[spellclass].getService(Components.interfaces.mozISpellCheckingEngine);
seems to fix the problem.

Would be nice to see an official version 1.3.3 soon :-)
