It no longer works :-) these types of addons are more important today than ever before.

This was one of the best SPF addons until FF upgraded to version 15. The it stopped working ((( real bummer

This add-on is not compatible with the latest version of Thunderbird 8.0 Please update.

I really like this idea behind this add-on!
Unfortunately, it wipes out the status? bar at the bottom of the Thunderbird window that displays the real url when you mouse over a link. (The status? bar also shows progress when downloading messages, compacting folders, etc.)
Because the url disclosure is my main means for checking urls, I'm giving version 0.9.0.6 a thumbs down.
Please fix this feature/bug! I'd really like to use this one, especially given the new birage of phishing spam!
By the way, this add-on takes 25 seconds (on an unloaded Fedora Linux 15) to create the warning popup.

Even the website would not correctly download it anymore. The basic idea was good but it is doubtful that anyone will get to put it into action anymore and see what it can do. R.I.P.

This is an excellent extension but as mentioned in other reviews, the DomainKeys verification is currently broken. I got the working code for SenderVerification.pm and query.cgi from archive.org, and set up my own verification server. In the extension settings, set your DK Verification Server to:

http://www.shroomery.org/dkverify/query.cgi

You can also view SenderVerification.pm.txt and query.cgi.txt in that same location to get the source and set up your own server.

I wish that I had discovered this sooner. So far (and to the best of my knowledge) it is working fine in Thunderbird 2 on Vista.

I do certainly hope that you have plans on making it compatible with Thunderbird 3.

Thanks for your time and effort put into developing this.

Looks great, but appears to have been abandoned. There have been no updates since 2007, and if you enable the DomainKeys function, it just gives an error saying, "DomainKeys checks are currently not available." It does have an option to point to a different "DK verification server," but gives no clues as to where one would be available. If anyone knows of any, please post it/them for the benefit of others who wish to use this feature while it is not available from its developer's site.

DomainKeys isn't supported anymore by the extension.

It wasn't abandoned so much as the extension worked and there wasn't anything to change. On the other hand, it probably is abandoned now since I don't have time to make it work with the upcoming Thunderbird 3.

Works for me on my Vista 64 bit OS. In fact, after following the advice the addon prompted regarding a firewall issue, this works like a charm. Fast and friendly. Thanks!

Does not appear to work with Vista. I get an SVE error for all emails when compared with XP 32 or 64 bit.

Like: It does what it says it will do.

Dislike: If the message is ok there doesn't seem to be any kind of indication of this. Suggestion: Make the text line turn green and read (Message ok) or somthing like that.

Dislike: In some instances the module seems to take a long time to determine good/bad. Other times it is extremely fast. Almost immediate. Maybe some kind of message like "Checking...## seconds" could be included? Just a thought.

Overall: A very nice module overall. Thank you very much for creating it! :-)

NEW: I felt I had to add more to my review. :-)

Since you are already checking the headers and such, might you not also check one more thing:

Scan the message's body and look for things like Y ??? Spammers use that a lot so the text shows as, say, "http://www.msn.com" but the actual href line is "http://www.im.a.spammer.com". You could then say something like "This looks as if it might be a spammer's message. Link does not match HREF." If you do include this into your app, I would not go beyond the site id as that is what you are really looking to identify. :-)

Hi Editor! I can't change the "Y ???" above to <a href="X">Y</a>. That's why I flagged it. - Markem

Excelent, but... two major turndowns.

First: does not use local DNS and so does not work behind restritive firewalls (I´m a security conscious guy - I will not open my firewall even for outbound connections, without a proxy of some kind).

Second: if I manually choose view/headers/normal, it should stay this way.

Anyway, it´s a very usefull plugin (currently only at home, because of the DNS problem).

> First: does not use local DNS and so does not work behind restritive firewalls

You can have it use any DNS server in the extension's options, but the DNS server must support TCP, due to a limitation in Thunderbird.

> Second: if I manually choose view/headers/normal, it should stay this way.

You mean it the verification line should disappear in normal mode? I think that defeats the purpose.

Since yesterday i have some problems with your Thunderbird extension.
For each mail i receive, sender verification shows:

Error: Could not get SPF info: DNS server occams.info:9053 refused a TCP connection

Is there any idea what has happened?

Regards
Michael

This was fixed shortly after the review was submitted. Clearly bug reports are best sent to the developer directly (unless they aren't fixed)!

I second Stretchr. I will give it a 10 anyway since this addon needs more love. :P
