A new version for this add-on has been developed that solves the compatibility issues with recent linux distributions.
Have a look at the xul-ext-evolution-mirror project on Launchpad (search this in your favorite search engine, since I cannot put links here).

Hi,unforunately it does not work in Ubuntu 12.10 with libecal-1.2.so.15. When I added the library (via a dynamic link) the addon complains, that a library function cannot be found and exits. I don't have the error on my local machine here, if you need it Ican provide it the next days.

Great plugin, but i have a little trouble with date\time in thunderbird and evolution calendar with this plugin. I have Asia/Ekaterinburg (Asia/Yekaterinburg) timezone (GMT+6), and in thunderbird I see the time for a hour more than in evolution. For example I create task for 9:20 PM in thunderbird, but see 8:20 in evolution calendar.

Appears to not work with Fedora 17. libecal.js complains that it cannot open the library "libecal-1.2.so.10". Problem is that Fedora 17 ships with a newer version of the library (libecal-1.2.so.11).
Cette critique concerne une version précédente du module (0.3.1).Version 0.3.2 should resolve this. It now checks for libecal-1.2.so.10 and libecal-1.2.so.11 and uses whichever is present.

Great addon, does exactly what it says on the tin! The only problem I had with it before that it was slow (to the point of locking up thunderbird), but with 0.3, everything is much smoother.

This is a wonderful very useful add-on. Bytie's comments about which packages to install on Ubuntu to make it work properly were very helpful. One request I'd add to this add-on is the ability to select which calendars sync to evolution. One might not want all calendars to display in the clock applet.

It requires installation of python-evolution and python-gnome2 packages in advance.
Also evolution should be installed, run and configured at least once if it haven't before. It is safe to remove evolution after running and configuring once. <br>Then the plugin should be installed and it will work like a charm!

Overall this is a great!
I found a but and reported it but got now response :/
Basically, if you have any feeds (iCal) associated to your Thunderbird account it will continue to export those 'events' each time it refreshes the evolution mirrored account. Therefore, over a course of a week you end up (depending on your refresh rate) with a load of events which are duplicates of each other.

Installed plugin, and within 10 seconds all my calendar events were inside Evolution, and subsequently on the Gnome clock/calendar applet. Making a change in TB propagated through to Evolution within seconds. Absolutely fantastic stuff :-)

Ok, I'm in Ubuntu 11.10 64bit with Thunderbird 9.0, Evolution 3.2.2 and Gnome-Shell 3.2.1. I installed python-evolution and I have a calendar there set as default. I can't see the plugin doing anything, evolution's calendar doesn't change, is there something I missed? Where do I even look to see if the plugin is working?
Thanks

Finally got this working! Works decent, but many improvements can be made, e.g. error/dependency checks and progress indicators.
NOTE: For me, this plugin required the following dependencies (Sabayon Linux)
dev-python/evolution-python
dev-python/libbonobo-python

My setup is: Fedora 15, Thunderbird 6, Lightning 1.0.0.b5pre (all official Fedora packages), Evolution 3.0.2. You NEED to install the python bindings for Evolution FIRST for this add-on to work! On Fedora 15 this package is called "gnome-python2-evolution" in Add/Remove Software.Once I installed the above package, and then the add-on, Thunderbird really chugged when it restarted. I had five calendars, and I don't purge old events. Plus, I hadn't used one of my calendars in a while and it was not switched on in TB, but the Mirror add-on was still adding its events to Evolution - I didn't expect that. Once I removed said dormant calendar, restarted TB one more time, and got a coffee while the plug-in did its thing, everything worked as advertised. I liked that it works, and I can now click the clock in Gnome Shell and see my schedule at a glance. What this add-on needs is better error checking (eg. if the python-evolution bindings are missing) and some kind of progress indicator for the first sync.

It seems it's not working...
I installed the 0.2.3 extension on TB 5.0, restarted TB.
Started Evolution, I saw all the events of calendar in Gnome applet.
Removed Evolution, everything vanished.
I'm wondering what Evolution Mirror is doing...!?

It seems that this addon doesn't work with TB 3.1. I've added several google calendars to the ligthning 1.0b2 extension but none of the events appeared in clock-calendar of gnome 3. Tested on Fedora 15
