To remove the message header toolbar entirely, put the following line in userChrome.css:

#header-view-toolbox { display: none; }

Edited to add: to have the message header buttons display normally(to the right for LTR languages) use the following:

#expandedHeadersTopBox { display: block; }

Apparently this is overwritten in the extension, and it is what allows the From and buttons to be moved with CSS.

Very neat. The only thing I didn't like was the messages didn't have alternate shading. So, I add the following in my Userchrome.css

treechildren::-moz-tree-row() {
min-height: 22px !important;
background-color: #ffffff;
}

treechildren::-moz-tree-row(odd) {
background-color: #f1f3f8;
}

/* -- override the mailbox folders list -- */
#folderTree > treechildren::-moz-tree-row() {
background-color: #e5eaf4;
}

Now its perfect! :D

Thunderbird's default appearance has been hideous ever since they started to update the program every two weeks. I had been using MostlyCrystal's theme, but since they discontinued that, I stumbled on this. Perfect. Hope the dev is able to keep up with all of Mozilla's updates!

In Thunderbird 8, with all the message header buttons removed & this theme installed, the "from" part of message header has shunted out of alignment & gone further to right.

This happens with a clean profile, without this theme installed the alignment is restored to normal.

See http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/851/tb8header.jpg/
for image as effected.

Apart from that, nice to see the colored icons back in Thunderbird where they belong. This is the same effect as the Classic TB2 theme which also miss aligns the from part.

Also is there a version with the star rather than the flag. Currently have version 1.5.2 of this theme installed. Is there a css entry that can restore this? if no version available.

This theme is cool, thank you very much!

Glad you made this theme.
It gives TB a look back you want to work with.
Only one small request. Is it possible to get a different Junk Folder Icon? It looks a bit too similar to the recycle bin.

This is the best looking theme out there for Thunderbird 5 and 6. I've always like the classic look. Thanks for creating it!

One small request: Is there anyway you could post the version with the star instead of the flag that you mentioned to shub? That would be great. Thanks again!

Hey K C,
The Version with the flag Icon is in the Development Channel available.
You can find the Development Channel on the Bottom on the Page.

I don't know why Mozilla introduced that awful theme in 5.0 but thank god I found this!

Thanx a lot!!!! The new layout of Thunderbird 5 is an usability catastrophy. Dear TB developers: Not everthing new is an improvent!

Love it, much better than the Thunderbird 5 Aero look, which makes the top part almost unreadable.
But with my Thunderbird 5 the top menu bar has grey text, any idea how to fix that ?

Hello Roughael,
The grey text is a bug in the current version. In the new version 1.5.1 is it repaired. The new Version is in the next Days available.

It's a great theme, the only one I acctually can use. It's simple, small and clean.
Great work! Thanks a lot!

This is perhaps the only theme I could look at amongst all others I tried. The only theme good after classic is the classic reloaded.

Nice classic look for TB 3.1
Good if you want to everything set up like older versions.

If you like to use buttons on the message header, you may not like this. The button icons there do not look too good.

The problem stated by FeatheredGems does not happen on WinXP sp3 TB3.1.

When trying to create a new message filter this theme does not offer options of what to match. There's a whole section missing from the message filter creation box. I had to change themes just to create a new message filter.

Thanks a lot for doing this theme. It is THE BEST. At first I thought it was only in German, but then I desperately installed it and it was in English, given my language settings. Thanks again. I am also as nostalgic as you are and wanted the old look back.

Thank you for keeping the design of this issue.
I have used so far the Qute 2.2.1, but when you upgrade to version 3, I had to change the subject to Classic Reloaded.
Arrows do not work "Back" and "Next" (and Vorherige Nächste). I do not like you've gone orange star that appeared alongside the new messages. The different color of text, not enough to clearly differentiate the new message.

Thank You
Someone usually does something like this for every new version of Thunderbird. Since the icons activate similar functions across all versions, why radically change them? I've used this theme for years.
How about posting this page in English?
