I've been using this plugin for a couple of years, and it works well. It makes it easy to set up and use gpg for email. It's unfortunate that so few people are aware of email encryption, and that PGP is not well supported natively in popular clients, specifically in the MS Windows world.

Why would I need this pluggin? I don't understand its purpose. If I encrypt an email, does the recipient require a similar software to decrypt?

To get this to run on VISTA, I had to download Gpg4win. The lite version does not work with VISTA (at least I could not). I When I downloaded the full Gpg4win version, all worked well.

This extension makes GPG seamless and easy to use in Thunderbird. It has all the features you'd expect and works intuitively and reliably. Kudos to the author for a job well done.

I use Enigmail 0.94.2 with Thunderbird 1.5.0.13 (the versions supported by Ubuntu linux) and it works excellently.

The integration is seamless, even having little details like the "this message will be signed" and "this message will be encrypted" indicators in the bottom-right of a new message, just like how Thunderbird works with S/MIME.

Having one-click decryption and verification is also nice. The Enigmail key manager is also excellent, though I find it lacks some features (like being able to select a default key) that must be selected with Seahorse. Also, having a user-configurable time for caching passphrases would be nice; 5 minutes of non-idle time is too short for my needs.

Enigmail's easy-to-use frontend to GPG and its excellent integration with Thunderbird make this add-on a most excellent choice.
