My mother absolutely loved Cardinals. Her favorite bird.

Once when she was going through some very hard times, feeling alone and forgotten, she went out to sit on the back porch.
Although quite rare in that area, a beautiful red Cardinal flew by and came and sat right beside her. No fear, no hesitation. Just sat there looking at her and singing.

Since Cardinals virtually never exhibit such friendly to man behavior, my mom took this as a sign from God that she was not forgotten or alone. Changed her mood and rid her of all dark thoughts completely.
True story.
