Great, thanks for this! So many people have been asking for this functionality for years (like you say, it was originally in Thunderbird 1.* but was removed and replaced with the "startup page").

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.1).

Really great extension, thank you for all your work! This is really how Thunderbird should work "out of the box", in the year 2019! :-)

Just a couple of little things. Firstly, when I enter the contact's name into the "To:" field, the surname is underlined with a wavy red line - I don't wish to spellcheck this (and I already have spellchecking turned off everywhere in thunderbird) - so is there a way to disable the spellchecking of the names? Also, when the name appears in the "To:" field, it is surrounded with a dark blue box which clashes a little with the default Thunderbird look/feel - is there a way to change the colour of this box, or make it a lighter grey?

Brilliant extension, fixes several long-standing annoyances with Thunderbird! In the year 2019, this functionality really should be built in to Thunderbird by default. Thanks for your work on this, I owe you a beer! :-)

Brilliant, fixes several annoyances with Thunderbird! Something like this really should be incorporated into Thunderbird by default, to bring functionality up to Outlook-type levels. Thanks for all your hard work! :-)

Just discovered this extension, and wish I'd seen it years ago! It fixes one of my biggest bug-bears with Thunderbird - the awful and outdated search functionality. This really should be incorporated into Thunderbird by default. Brilliant - thanks for all your hard work on this! :-)

Lightning

Doesn't automatically import Google calendars, unlike every other (modern) Calendar application I can think of. Instead, you have to log into your own Google account and search for the correct settings to cut and paste into the correct settings box in Lightning. That might've been acceptable 10 or 15 years ago, but in this day and age Lightning setup is hopelessly outdated and user-unfriendly. Also, it seems every time Thunderbird is updated, Lightning is broken, and users have to wait for an updated Lightning extension to get calendering functionality back. Again, this is just unacceptable. I just can't recommend this extension for anyone but "technical" users and hobbyists who have the time and inclination to faff around. :-(
