Using TB17 with Lightning 1.9 and things work great. Calendars load up and can be made read-only or two way sync. Haven't had any issues at all there!

Two major annoyances at the moment though:
-- Cannot categorize events to which you were invited (not author) - which makes no sense!
-- Cannot add attachments to an event

Any chance of those being remedied in the near future?

I've been using Provider for Google Calendar for years. It generally does the job of syncing Lightning & your Google Calendar, but I have an unresolved issue. Currently, it's only syncing in one direction: Google Calendar to Lightning. Events added to Lightning don't get added to Google Calendar. I filed a report on bugzilla as others are also reporting the issue.

Ne fonctionne pas. Bien que mon Url Google Agenda (privée) soit bien identifiée (avec la bonne @ qui apparaît dans le champ de connexion) Thunderbird me demande à chaque fois le mot de passe... Sans que la synchronisation se fasse.

This is a very good beta product. Here are some suggestions for things I encountered in figuring out how to set it up and use it. 1. Turn/off disable all other calendars before installing the provider addon. 2. Install provider addon. 3. Click to create a new calendar (file new calendar or right click in the calendar bar and select new calendar). 4. Fill in information to access your calendar, xml url, email address and password and calendar name (DO NOT SELECT ANY CHECK BOXES FOR READ ONLY, REMINDERS, OR OFFLINE USE). 5. Wait for your calendar to populate in Thunderbird. If all this goes well close thunderbird and then restart thunderbird. If all is still going well, then right click on your google calendar and select properties then you can select to turn on reminders if want to turn those on. If all that goes well close thunderbird and then restart thunderbird. If all is still going well you are done. NOTE SELECTING OFFLINE ACCESS WILL CAUSE THUNDERBIRD TO LOCK UP TIGHT. If you lock up thunderbird you may have to restart it in safe mode and then remove the google provider addon and start over. After you get it installed and working properly you are basically fine for being able to read and edit alarms and appointments and deal with pop-up reminders. I like this product and think it shows great potential. There are other products out there to bring in google tasks and contacts to thunderbird, but I haven't tried them yet so can't say how they work with this addon. If you want your google calendar in thunderbird this addon is definitely something you should try. Better than the alternatives I've seen so far for sure.

The only thing that is required for a 5 star review is to sync Thunderbird/Lightning Tasks with Google Tasks, even on a simple level!

This is a nice app when it works. I have noticed that sometimes it does not always connect, or shall I say stay connected. Also, it does not differentiate the colors like Google does, everything appears in one color (red). Outside of that I like it because I do not have to login to add an event.

i just upgraded to thunderbird 17 and gcal again (it happened in teh past) didnt work. 10 sec after starting thunderbird, it freezes with something heavily working on the background. If you disable gcal provider everythign goes smooth.

I remember the exact same thing happening some months ago.

PS: google davcal is just shitty for now. Most time it doesnt work.

This plug-in is NOT NEEDED ANYMORE to import Google Calendar data into Sunbird or Thunderbird Lightning!
Such import now works out of the box.

Please see ...

Which version of Provider for Google Calendar is for Thunderbird 10 ESR? It's confusing. The very old 0.13 says "Works with ... 8.0a1 & later" & 0.18pre says "8.0a1 & later", with everything in between saying they're for later versions of Thunderbird than 10.

There seems to be no way to contact the author, the only thing I could find was Philipp Kewisch's Twitter, which he didn't answer, and here.

I am a TB user since the early days. When the calender came up, I was happy. But the calender keeps making trouble, as bi-directional writing to Google Calendar is and dismissing of reminders keeps to be worrysome.
I hate using another application to run a cross-platform calendar... If this presists, the value of TB will be greatly reduced. A pity.

It used to be quite good untill they removed reminders for group events.
You can add as many reminders as you wish in google callendar but they don't sync so I would not call it exactly bidirectional either. This is a long lasting problem and I was forced to stop using thunderbird (That happens when you miss meetings or are late for them all the time...) The interface to accept meeting reqeuests should be intergrated in lightning. I get mail invites when they are accepted it should do the same as the plugin acceptation method. Perhaps this is a limitation of lightning as you can not set on what callendar it should accept invites. It is nessesary for decent integration though.

Conclusion: Works great if you are a simple home user and want to organize private things. Completely useless in a bussiness. Needs a lot of work.

I have found this add-on useful and have not had any problems with it until now. The add-on requires Lightning and I have version 1.7, but I think it was written for Lightning 1.8. Lightning 1.8 is not compatible with Thunderbird 15.0.1 which is the latest version available from Canonical, who makes installer packages for Ubuntu that can be installed on other builds of Linux. My installation and operating system are also 64 bit versions.

Version 0.18pre feels fast and snappy now. Thank you for a great little extension that helps keep life more-or-less organized :)

I have been using this addon for quite a long time and I am very happy about it. However in the past 10 days, I have been experiencing problems: TB hangs upon opening and waking up from sleep, under OS X. TB works perfectly with this app disabled. I am not sure. Too bad, the addon is really useful. Let me know if you need more info.

Right now, the add-on is practically useless for me since it interferes with Outlook invitations - as long as the add-on is active, I can't accept Outlook Meeting Invites :-(
