Works very well and nicely replaces the old extension that TB killed.

A suggestion would be to also eliminate all the buttons in the header. Their functions are all available in the task bar anyhow, or by the delete key or various other approaches.

I did have trouble figuring out how to install an XPI file though. The TB developers keep moving things around so memories of how I did it last time or instructions one finds on the web to install XPI files frequently don't work anymore. Their desire to pretty up the TB UI is very counter productive IMHO. I prefer an old ugly one that works to a "new and improved" version of TB. That goes double for Windows 10 UI redesigns, but they don't listen either.

Thanks for this add-on. I immediately searched for "compact headers" after the update to TB 78 and was relieved to find a working one.

@Nibinaear: Settings are available via the context menu of the angle bracket which shows the normal/compact mode state; so just click with the right mouse button on it.

@Firefox user f5aa39: I use Message Header Toolbar Customize (https://addons.thunderbird.net/de/thunderbird/addon/msghdr-toolbar-customize/) for this additionally.

@Eric March: You can give 5 stars now since it fully works in TB 78 and you can set one line or two lines.

I can't find the button to edit the settings so I can use single-line mode. Otherwise it works well.

I shall give 4 stars - when using Add-On in TB 78.x
Description and real abilities do not match and left me to trial-and-error. Yes, I can indeed do sttings toggling between one line and full heder, not ›reducing to 2‹.
This may be close to 5 stars.

But… Due non support of TB 78 by to me essentialAdd-Ons, I will stay on 68 as long as possible.
This Add-On fails on 68, but on intention I plan to have 68 as template when, having no chance, switching to 78.
Question, why offered to 68?

Could you even make it smaller (one line or none) ?
Thunderbird cannot be used without it... This great app wastes so much space...

Funktioniert! Schön, dass es so schnell einen Ersatz für das vorige Add-On gibt.

Good start!
Just need an option to hide whole pane to make maximum use of the screen space (not when working with message in separate tab).
Because msg information is in the list and buttons can be added into main toolbar.

This is now (almost) perfect. I do still have a feature request, if you are able/willing to do it, though. When showing the compact header for an RSS feed article, the older add-on associated the article's URL as a hyperlink on the Subject so that I could just click on the Subject header to link to the full article. Here, I have to expand the headers in order to see the web address to click on. That would be a nice feature if you can do it. Many thanks.

Very useful! Could you just please update the subject line, so that it displays a partial subject when it's more than one line?

Yes, next version, send me your email and I'll send you a beta.

Good replacement for "compact header", thank you very much!

One (hopefully small) feature request: instead of showing From and Subject in compact mode, allow showing Correspondents and Subject -- this way, you automatically see senders (for message you receive) or recipients (for messages you send), which is more useful information than seeing yourself as sender when viewing message you have sent.

I would like the following feature.
When the focus is on the message content header's color should be darker or when on the list be lighter.

I would have given more stars but I am concerned about the permissions required for installation which says the extension "requires your permission to have full, unrestricted access to Thunderbird and your computer". Why the computer ?

This is the standard permissions popup for all add-ons.
