This add-on does not work properly in TB 60.0 and later. I'm tracking my progress towards supporting 63+ in https://github.com/jdgeenen/gcontactsync/issues/121. Thunderbird's rate of making breaking changes has outpaced my spare time, so your patience is appreciated. One star reviews won't help it get done more quickly :).
Synchronizes contacts between Thunderbird or SeaMonkey and one or more Google accounts. It can synchronize the My Contacts group, all contacts, or all contacts and groups (with mailing lists).
gContactSync can also import your friends on Facebook (including their profile picture) and people you follow on Twitter.

*Important*
NOTE: Mailing lists are buggy, but gContactSync tries to work around these bugs whenever possible. The fake e-mail addresses [email protected] are necessary to prevent bugs in mailing lists and are only stored in Thunderbird (they'll never make it to Google). It is best to drag contacts into the main address book and add them to groups from Google's interface.
If you choose to synchronize all contacts and groups don't try to delete or rename "My Contacts", "Coworkers", "Family", or "Friends" or you may have to 'reset' that address book. Google requires these groups for every account, including Google Apps accounts where you can't see them online.

It makes several modifications and improvements to the Address Book including more fields and types for several fields to more closely match what Google has.
