Didn't manage to find Gmail intergration though, but in general works fine with me.

No S/MIME support though.

The preferences dialog needs ~1 Min to check the system and show the window contents, failed to detect GNUgpg directories while estimating the installation OK. Reproducible script crash in the keys subdialog. Deinstalled immediately without testing its functionality.

Unfortunately, this plugin relies on platform-specific binaries (NPAPI). Some may argue that this offers better security; however, this causes portability issues. A better solution would be to use OpenPGP-JavaScript.

I was very excited to see this addon. Successfully installed on FF 28 and 33.1.1, but it did not work either. :( Got this error page with this URL:

I hope you can make this work, because I think it is really wanted and needed by people, and would be appreciated by many. Those who have gotten this to work fully, please post the browser version here for all to know.
Does this work on some versions of Firefox? Which?

Kyle, please let me know once you got it working fully, and I'll do a post, or a review or or How-To, or something for WebPG at TechNotes.whw1.com.

Also, after going to FF Addons, and clicking on Options for your addon, the following errors show:
There is a problem with your configuration.
There was a problem loading the plugin; the plugin might be incompatibly compiled for this architecture.

Why let website owners control your identity? Why force other users to talk to you in the clear? This plugin solves that problem.

Small bugs: It sometimes prevents the spellcheck from changing things. And it doesn't tell you when it's doing something slow and important, such as generating keys.
The Webpg drop down menu on form boxes would benefit from also appearing on the submit buttons.
Precomputing some default pgp keys and using mozilla-sync to share amongst other devices would be a great help!

Keep up the good work!

Working with Ubuntu 12.x . Looks stable (until maybe later I shall report more)

With Web.de inline decryption doesnot work yet (only gmail is mentioned to work )

I installed WebPG for Firefox 0.9.2 (no problem), restarted Firefox, went to Options for the WebPG add-on, and got this: "There is a problem with your configuration. There was a problem loading the plugin; the plugin might be incompatibly compiled for this architechture."

I'm using Firefox 27.0.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium.

So, no go for me.

unlike other "easy" encryption extension with webPG YOU are the keymaster as you OUGHT be.

trusting a third party to be keymaster and gatekeeper? you might as well trust NSA to do the right thing with your privacy. see also gullible.

Keymanager always freezes firefox.
It also breaks some site layouts

WebPG says "Your system appears to be configured correctly for WebPG," yet none of my keys show up and I don't have an option to import any, only generate a new one.

A very straightforward add-on that allows users of all levels (and those without prior encryption experience) to use high grade encryption.

Instantly encrypt/decrypt web based email (using a web browser to read email - for example Gmail, Hotmail).

What I find useful about WebPG is that:

- Installs as any other Firefox add-on; easy!
- Colourful, easy to view settings menus (see screenshots).
- A novice can be locking down and securing their communications in less than 5 minutes.

Simply the easiest PGP based encryption add-on or application I've seen to date.

Welcome to the age of privacy & security through industrial grade encryption.

WebPG brings GPG cryptography to the browser. I primarily use it for signing / encrypting (and verifying / decrypting) emails using gmail. The web interface for gmail has evaded cryptography for a long time however, this addon does seem to work.

The gmail integration is labelled as "very beta" and I think this is true. However, if all you want is the four basic functions, it works well enough. There are a few tiny workarounds that you may need to do (eg. I've found that I need to use the popped-out compose window for webPG to work correctly).

All in all, a very good start to bringing cryptography to the web. For far too long people have been unable to use cryptography inside the many browser-based communication methods that we use now.

When trying to access key management, a window opens telling me that the keys are being assembled, but nothing happens. My attempts to enter the configuration dialogue are ending up in a compile error message. I'm using Firefox 21.0 on XP.

It sounds to me like you do not have GnuPG installed, which is a requirement. WebPG extends GnuPG; it must be installed.

If you do have GnuPG installed, it is possible that WebPG is unable to detect/locate it, in that case I would suggest contacting WebPG support to resolve the issue. http://webpg.org/

Excellent addon, but it's initially slow and cumbersome. Took me few minutes and two FF restarts to get it to work. Also doesn't recognize gpg4USB keys or enable browsing for keys. Please perfect it as GPG would be very difficult without it!

Great so far. Definitely a work in progress, with a few interface glitches, but the main features work well and are extremely useful. The developer is also very responsive to bug reports and feedback.

A promising extension, but I could not use it because it does not work on small screens. The dialog popups are always partly off-screen, and they're unresizable. The options dialog breaks out into its own window instead of staying in a tab, and most of the time there's no draggable titlebar either. It takes a lot of effort to defeat HTML's natural flexibility, and modern usefulness of tabs.

UPDATE:

If you could get it to display a draggable titlebar, along with the ability to resize it, then I can move it to be on-screen, and resize it to fit. Giving scrollbars when I resize it smaller than you intend for it to be would allow it to fit in any screen. When that much works, then I can try this again.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.0.1-signed.1-signed).

Work is underway to better account for small resolutions. This is a technical challenge, since the resources in question are not standard HTML, and the information being displayed is quite vast.

The Options Dialog is XUL, not HTML, and for the time being needs to be within it's own window, not within a tab. As for the dialogs, most of the dialogs are IFRAME elements in order to prevent the host page from accessing the data. Sizing and moving those dialogs based on host window-size and page content is very tricky.

I assure you that no effort was put forth "to defeat HTML's natural flexibility, and modern usefulness of tabs" -- quite the opposite has occurred, but unfortunately it is not so simple to create an extension code-base that is compatible with 3 browsers on 3 different operating system that handles every part of the UI as the user would expect.

If you are having issues with the user interface, I would urge you to get in contact with support to open a bug report, or suggest ideas to make the interface more usable.

In the meantime, this extension is BETA and is actively being improved. I ask that you have patience with the progress as changes take a lot of time to develop and adequately test.
