Have been using this add-on for a long time on PC, now on Mac also. This is the only add-on of its kind and works well on PC. On Mac sometimes if leaving TB always running, but window closed, on relaunch of window, no Calendars show. but a restart of TB always fixes this. Would really benefit from Tasks integration. Looking forward to that.

with TB 13.x and 14, lightning 1.5x and 1.6, provider for google calendar is causing a complete hang of thunderbird.

I'd have to start Thunderbird in safe mode and disabled all addons one by one to understand that Provider for Google Calendar hung Thunderbird.

Very helpful to keep your information in one place. I will add one more star an donate as soon as "tasks" will be in sync too.

I have used this add-on for a couple of years now and contrary to some reviews, it really does work - or rather it did until I updated to TB13 / Lightning 1.5. Now I find that every entry on my Lightning calendar is Duplicated - i.e. I have two copies of every event on my Lightning Calendar but not on my Google calendar. Had it not been for this bug, it would be a 5-star review...

CalDav is impossible to use for non programmers. For normal people, there's Provider for Google Calendar.

We are using it to join the several google accounts of the staff. It's working very well.
Now we can view and share Google Calendar directly on Lightning.

No need to use this extension to acces google calendar!!! Lightning does it automatically using CalDav!

This is a bloatware or something...

Works EXCELLENT ! ! !
I know it says to backup because of potential Data Loss, so I create duplicates on the local calendar for important meetings.

The following link will take you to "dewdle"s comment for how to make this ext. work flawlessly......if only people would READ comments and research.....

FACT:
1. Anyone that says that this addon works flawlessly doesn't have to process invitations into there Google Calendar, which doesn't work, period.

2. Thunderbird Lightning is able to process Google Calendar requests out of the box, without the need of this addon, and is able to process invitations into Google Calendar, via Caldav. I urge users reading this to try Caldav first, which is the supported method.

-----

This add-on, while good intention, creates more confusion than it's worth, as people think that this add-on is required to access Google Calendar, and issues with this plugin and Caldav become intertwined creating more confusion on the forums and bug reporting. I urge the author to do the community a favor and remove this addon from the repository. If your going to donate, do so to the Mozilla foundation that manages Firefox and Thunderbird.

With the help of this add on I keep my group of calendars, all of them sub-calendars to a google calendar account, in sync and it just works. sync happens fast and is very reliable.
There is just one &lt;b&gt;but&lt;/b&gt; to this: tasks support is missing. Lightning doesn't accept imported google calendars to store tasks in and google tasks is not supported. I have no idea why a prior review reports that tasks are synced as there is nothing like it in the add-on. In fact, the term 'task' appears just once within the scripts, in a function "getProperty" with <br>case "capabilities.tasks.supported":<br> return false;<br>And since there really seems to be no viable alternative to sync tasks between lightning and, say, an android phone short of installing some collaboration server this missing feature does hurt me. So I spare the fifth star for the day when the provider adds tasks api support

Too difficult to figure out. I could take the time to figure out how to make this work. But just clicking the "Firefox" icon is so much easier. My Google calender comes up immediately, there. I don't know why it has to be so damn difficult to do the same thing in Thunderbird. I'll just keep viewing my Calender in Firefox. This was more difficult than I expected. I like stuff that's super user friendly. I'm sure this program probably works. But user friendly it is not.

Ok - I must be missing something very basic.
1) I've yet to find explicit instructions from the developer explaining how to set this up, get calendars synchronized, choose settings, etc.
2) My gmail calendar still does not show the events in my TB calendar. Neither clicking the Synchronize button in the TB taskbar nor right-clicking on the calendar name and selecting Synchronize Calendars has made any difference. If Google has a synchronize button, I've yet to find it. I'm not sure what dewdle's instructions to "reload remote calendars" means; I've restarted everything, including the computer (Vista Enterprise) to no avail.
3) The wiki said I was to create a new calendar in TB with the Gmail private URL as its Location. I did that and now I have two calendars showing in TB that apparently are identical: changes to one, including the view, seem to be immediate in the other. So what's the point of showing both?

Please don't listen to the suggestion for using CALDAV. As of writing this Provider for Google Calendar works much better. Google is much better about maintaining apis(which I assume is what provider is using) as opposed to services(Caldav or any of the Calendar features really). Google can someday make Caldav better but for now this is the way to go.

Instructions on the wiki state to access "settings" via the right side of Google Calendar, but of course Google's gone and changed things around again, so I couldn't find the XML button in the main calendar settings page.

I found the XML button by clicking on the DOWN button - next to my calendar's name (in the left portion of Google calendar), then clicking on Calendar Settings. I chose the 2nd XML button, since my calendar is not public.

After re-adding a new Google calendar to TB, using the new 4th radio button, then entering my Google PW, I tested by adding an event to my Google calender *on* TB, reloaded remote calenders from TB, then reloaded my Google calendar in the browser, and my test event was there in the browser too, YAY!

With all of the disinformation flying about these comments, it must be hard for the uninitiated to make a rational determination as to the value of this add-on.

There are four independent yet interdependent components to consider when installing, using, and upgrading this add-on:

1. Thunderbird or SeaMonkey (the base component)
2. Lightning (the calendar component)
3. Provider for Google Calendar (this add-on)
4. Google Calendar (the data component)

When upgrading, it is extremely important to remember that changes to Lightning and/or Thunderbird (or SeaMonkey) will very likely have some impact on the behavior of Provider for Google Calendar. If available, you should upgrade your build of the Provider at the same time as you upgrade Lightning.

A good rule of thumb when upgrading any of these components is to disable *all* remote calendars before the upgrade, then upgrade Thunderbird (or SeaMonkey), followed by Lightning, and finally Provider for Google Calendar. Once all that's done, review the properties of your remote calendar(s) to be sure that nothing broke in your profile, and only then, re-enable your remote calendars.

CalDAV support for Google calendars is great but lacks some functionality (notifications via SMS, for example - at least, this has been the case; it is likely to change in the future, but that is entirely up to Google). Whatever changes Google may make to various external calendar interfaces are beyond the control of this add-on's developer and anyone else outside of Google, so please don't blame this add-on (or it's developer) for such happenings.

It works for the vast majority of us using it, and the author is active in development, responsive to bug reports, and approachable. Beyond that, the price is truly an exceptional value (FREE), which is something often overlooked in the open source community.

As with all things in life, your personal experience may vary, and no two people share the same data conditions at the same time. This add-on works very, very well for me, and I highly recommend it.
