The addon does exactly as indicated, which is a simple solution to stop sending emails from the wrong address, especially when replying.
Also, good support from the developer. I had some troubling finding the settings – it's located in the "hamburger menu" > Add-ons if anyone else's looking for it.

Same problem. Using latest version of Ubuntu Thunderbird (68.4.1) and NoComposeAccount ver 1.5.4, I cannot get the add-on to use the account folder I am currently reading an email in as the sending email account. When I answer an email, I do it from that folder. The add-on does NOT insert the account of the folder no matter how I have the radio buttons configured.

Using latest version of Ubuntu Thunderbird (68.4.1) and NoComposeAccount ver 1.5.4, I cannot get the add-on to use the account folder I am currently reading an email in as the sending email account. I have 8 accounts of varying flavors (ATTGlobal, Gmail, Hotmail, etc) and each one has it's separate account "inbox folder". When I answer an email, I do it from that folder. The add-on does NOT insert the account of the folder no matter how I have the radio buttons configured.

it'd be great to choose which account appears by default in the FROM field...

as it is now, you can choose only the default email account for the default FROM field address...

it'd be great if you could choose any of your accounts...

ONE more thing:
it'd be great if the menu for this addon could be reached from the TOOLS menu, too....

thanks anyhow !!

I have email accounts A and B, and set my account settings so that emails are also Bcc to myself. I just installed NoComposeAccount and set the default compose account to account A. However, when I have account B selected and start composing my email, I find that the "From" field gets set to account A but the "Bcc" field remains as account B. I suggest that the NoComposeAccount add-on should also update the Bcc field as well.

In TB 17 in 64bit Linux, the add-on correctly blanks out the From account. But as soon as you start typing in the body of the message, the focus changes to the From field, and a "random" account appears. Maybe it's using type-ahead because the focus changed, but that's not how I expected the add-on to work. Oh well, at least the From account is blank, which catches my eye enough to cause me to select the right account.

The behavior you're describing is by design.
When no "From" account is selected the addon won't let you start writing your mail. Instead it'll focus the "From" account dropdown.
What you're experiencing as "random" account is caused by the typing of letters with the dropdown active.

I've only just installed this so too soon for detailed comment but it looks as if it will be very useful. Far too many times I've had new messages go out on the wrong account, which creates confusion and makes it hard to find replies. I'm sure this will stop that.

One suggestion for an enhancement. I have five email accounts. Four of them I want replies to go via the default account. The fifth I have for a special purpose and I want replies to messages on that account to go via its own account.

So, the suggestion -- an option to create a separate configuration for a specific account.

Thunderbird 10.0.2 on Linux, NoComposeAccount 1.3

When I close and save as draft without selecting an account, the mail still gets lost.

The option "Force selection of compose account" does not force a selection nor does it set the focus to the selection dropdown widget. In short it seems to do nothing.

Also when this addon is activated the account selection widget height becomes very small, obviously due to not having to display any text, which makes it harder to recognize. It schould at best display some text like "Select the sender account" (which should also be translatable) or at least retain the height.

Apart from that: Thanks for programming this plugin! Really helpfull.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.
I've just re-tested the plugin on Ubuntu 11.10 with Thunderbird 10.0.2 where the 'focus' feature seems to work as intended. It does in fact set focus to the account dropdown when the main message window receives focus.
Maybe you're experiencing some sort of conflict with another addon. If you'd like to send me a list or screen dump of your active addons via the support email address I'll be happy to investigate further.

Pretty good idea do do this way when a new mail shall be written and no account is preselected. But when I don`t want to send it but to store it only in "draft/Entwürfe" and no account is selected, it seems to store but it doesn't (because the program doesn't know where to store?). No error message pops up and the the mail is not stored and the text is lost, because the editor closes then! PLEASE CORRECT THIS!

Another user recently pointed out the exact same thing to me.
I think your assumption is correct in that the draft save fails because TB doesn't know where to store it when no sender account is selected. That would make sense.
I'm currently trying out different solutions to the problem to try to find the best one.
One idea is to add yet another option which would have NoComposeAccount force you to choose a sender mail account when beginning a new message.
Hopefully a new version will be ready soon.

*edit* fix was added in 1.2

Mostly works for me but unfortunately falls at the first hurdle. I have seven accounts. If I select any of six of them as my default account, composing a new message or replying selects the default. But if I set the seventh account, the one that I really want, as default, NoComposeAccount fails to nominate this as the sending account and uses the account related to the folder I happen to be in,.So I'm currently working with it set to nominate no account and make this a manual selection to see whether nominating a From account manually each time is overall less hassle than occasionally selecting the wrong account.

If you'd like me to take a look at it please send me an email.
With a little more info (account settings and maybe Error Console messages) I'm sure we can figure this out.

*edit* I'm guessing this issue was related you having more than one identity configured on the account in question(?) If so, the issue should be fixed as of version 1.3

Thanks madmital for fixing this add-on when using multiple signatures, it does exactly what we need now!

Not sure this is the right place for bug reports, but I don't see any other contact option.
Using Thunderbird 3.1.10 and noComposeAccount 1.0 with the option of leaving the sender account blank. If I forget to select an account and hit the send button, a pop-up message warns me to select one, and the send button turns grey. However, even after I select an account, it remains grey and I can't send the e-mail anymore, no matter what I do... would be perfect otherwise!

First of all I must apologize for not adding a support email address to the add-on listing earlier on.
The few tests I've done have not been able to reproduce what you describe.
Please feel free to get in touch with me and we'll figure it out.

I can't install 0.44pre in TB3.1.1 with Compatibility Reporter 0.5.1 -- says it's "Not compatible". Do the ".rdf" strings need to be updated ? Do you need a Mac tester ? Post a reply here:

I liked what I saw when tested previously, but I'm now using 3.1.1 instead of the 3.1a1pre I was using before...

I have the same situation/problem, and believe a better solution would be, the add-on automatically choose sender depending on the recipient (and the user can manually override when needed). The "rules" of choosing sender from recipient can be determined by a form to fill, where one can use regular expressions or catch-all symbols.

Works great, but there is a bug where it won't automatically add the signature I have associated to the default account in the e-mail.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your review :-)
As far as the signature bug goes I'm not able to reproduce the behavior on my own 3.0.3-installation on XP.
Are you sure this add-on is what causes it? Could the behaviour have been introduced by another recently installed add-on? I'll be happy to investigate further if you provide info about your TB version and OS.

I like it very much! I use gmail for business, and I use thunderbird to access gmail. thanks!
