Yahoo! Mail Notifier

I've used this extension for many years without any troubles but things have changed for the worse since Yahoo has become the default search engine in Firefox. Now Yahoo! Mail Notifier opens up a new tab in front of my default opening page. Before I can even use my browser I have to go through a number of questions to open a yahoo page that I don't want to view. Yahoo has hijacked my default home page! What is this nonsense? It's is so irritating having to deal with this cr_p. As soon as I found out this extension was at the root of the problem I immediately removed it. Furthermore, I'm even considering dropping Yahoo as my mail client for GMail. I think a lot of folks using this extension will dump it in order rectify this very annoying problem. The people involved in this would be well advised to change it back to the way it was.

Thumbnail Zoom Plus is one of those addons that, while not indespensible, provides a convenient feature you soon grow to love.

I've used this extension for many years and have to say that of the sixty plus extensions I have on my Firefox browser Speed Dial is, without question, one the most used and usefull I've ever come across. I have this add-on set up with 23 tabs that house a hair under 600 dials, so finding and accessing web sites I go to often is a snap. Today I consider it to be an absolutely indespensible extension, and would be lost without it. When I use browsers that don't have Speed Dial it's like going back in time ..... to when stone knives and bearskins were in vogue!

I love the way this little extension works. A letter icon sits on the toolbar and changes slightly with the addition of a red/yellow flash behind and to the left of it when email arrives at the yahoo server. The number of emails is also shown to to the right of the icon. The extension uses the Yahoo! Companion feed to check for new mail so only new messages received since last viewing your Yahoo mail box will be counted as new. For me I also have Yahoo plus account that allows me to have have a POP3 service sent to a mail client. In my case it's Thunderbird. I use Yahoo! Mail Notifier to let me know I have mail in the Yahoo mail server, and use that Yahoo email to prefilter Thunderbird. Let me explain. Since I am a member of a number of yahoo forums I am the recipient of a ton of email. It's much easier for me to effectively view and deal with this forum email in Thunderbird but I like the speed and convenience of Yahoo for my everyday run-of-the-mill email. I also use the Yahoo mail to filter junkmail/spam that gets through the yahoo mail server filers. The way I see it I'm getting the best of both worlds. Even when I push the button to view the mail in Thunderbird I can still have a copy of the email remain on the Yahoo server. The Yahoo! Mail Notifier is simply a convenient aid in my mail processing. I love it!

While Linkification merely converts text links to clickable links it nevertheless provides a very useful feature. I'm glad to have this extension in my stable.

When I first looked at the Wizz RSS News Reader over a year and a half ago I was not very impressed with it. At that time it wasn't even the best RSS Firefox extension, and it d_mn sure couldn't compare with the better freeware and shareware RSS news readers available. I thought that the only redeeming thing about the Wizz RSS News Reader was that it was integrated into Firefox, and because of that the web pages opened quickly. However that wasn't enough to keep it on my system. I shrugged my shoulders and uninstalled it. While I was fooling around with a number of other RSS news readers in the months that followed I noted that Mike Kroger steadily continued to develop the Wizz RSS News Reader with one version following another. Earlier this year on a whim I decided to try the Wizz RSS News Reader again and to my pleasant surprise found it had grown into a very fine RSS news reader extension; one that could compete with the best around. I was very impressed. Kudos to Mike for all his fine work on this little gem. I especially like using this extension in conjunction with the All-in-One Sidebar extension that automatically opens and closes the sidebar side of the reader with simple mouse movements. This is really nice! For Firefox users who are unfamiliar with RSS but have a hankering to try it I highly recommend they check out the Wizz RSS News Reader. The ugly caterpillar has finally grown into the beautiful butterfly.

When I first read of this extension I came to the conclusion that it was frivolous and not NEEDED. However my curiosity prevailed and I eventually installed it. Now, I still feel I don't need it, but I darn sure want it. The icon set not only gives Firefox much greater visual appeal but also helps me find things in the menus faster.

I was using the extension FlashGot in conjunction with the software program GetRight for my downloading needs but decided last year to simplify and use only the extension DownThemAll. I don't regret the move one bit.....or was that byte!

While I wouldn't call SmoothWheel a must have extension it does provide a much appreciated function. After using it a while it makes you forget how "rough" the default mouse scroll movement can be. You can also make adjustments to optimize the movement to the way you scroll.
