it is disabled when be used on in-box,why?And does it support Simple Chinese?
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.2).removedupes skips by default all special folders except for the Inbox. However, for it to go through the Inbox, the Inbox' name and the name removedupes _thinks_ the Inbox has have to match. So if the localization is wrong or missing, removedupes will skip the Inbox. You can fix this by unchecking 'skip special folders', or setting the removedupes.allowed_special_folders pref to the appropriate regexp (e.g. ^blah$ if your Inbox' name is blah).
As for Chinese support - it works for Hebrew, so it should work for Chinese too.

Successfully removed >11000 duplicates - took about 30 minutes on my slow computer - I had to respond to the "script may have stopped" message several times.
It did not remove any messages the first time - may have crashed? - but I tried it again. The second time it ran (with the same "script may have stopped" message) and it successfully removed all the duplicates - I just had to be patient.
By the way the 30 minutes includes both the first time and the 2nd time I ran it. and also includes the time it took thunderbird to compact the folder after removing the duplicates.
Great - now I have regained at least 900mb disk space back!

This is absoultely fantastic and saved me hours and hours of searching after migration.
But one feature should be added: The Search should also be possible over multiple accounts, because I use to file messages in folders and receive sometimes identical messages to two email-accounts.
I tried to select my accounts in the left panel and tried a search, got results, but the plugin does not show in the "Folder" column, which account the message belongs to.
But still this is a great help!
You can search over multiple accounts - just not in Thunderbird. In Seamonkey you can use ctrl+click to select multiple folders and accounts. It\'s not my fault that TB is a bit bastardized...\r\n\r\nAs for the folder column - click the column selector button and add it; it\'s not missing, it\'s just hidden.

When you re-creating your email account and have old emails, then you receive another 70% of the same emails this addon is the best so far i've seen. It lets you to delete older copies so next time you do not receive the copies of the same emails again.

Wonderfule add-on: quick and efficient.
The most part of times it isn't useful, but when you have some import going wrong (from outlook...) or if you lave ckean file...

Wonderful! This works beautifully with large IMAP folders (>1k messages).
I have just two complaints:
1. Needs an override option to search special folders like Sent.
2. It would be nice if it automatically preferred duplicates that have been replied or forwarded (the green and purple arrows).
1. In the extension's options window, uncheck 'Skip Special Folders'.
2. Make the message flags field visible, sort by it (click the appropriate column once or twice for the reverse order), then select 'Keep First'. This does the job in most cases, as the HAS_RE(ply) is copy is kept, or removed, depending on the sort order.

Having several mailboxes in Thunderbird that have persistently downloaded duplicate messages leaving me with thousands of emails to sort through, I was ready to ditch the lot and start again with a different email client but this add-on has done an amazing job of clearing the mess up. It installs easily, then a simple right-click on the folder that you are interested in gives an option to 'remove duplicates'. The user-interface is very clear and simple - you have the opportunity to check before deleting the duplicates and you can delete them all immediately or move them to your deleted files if you are not sure about getting rid of them immediately.
Initially I found that not all my duplicates were discovered - I contacted the writer, Eyal for help (thanks for the very quick & helpful response Eyal). The issue was easily solved by changing the Message Comparison options (Tools menu -> Add-ons -> Remove Duplicates -> Options button) - removing size from the list.
A fast & effective tool - highly recommended.

I have used this as well as the other "Remove Duplicates" and like this much better.
The other one does not have the option to permanently delete the dupes. When I would find messages in the Trash, I was often not sure whether they had been deleted intentionally. To be sure, I had to waste time moving them back to the original folder and de-duping again, then deleting them from the Trash.
With this extension, I simply choose to delete them permanently the first time and I need never wonder about that.

Just a tip. If a message is tagged, it means that some action was taken, so the tagged message should have some priority over the one without tags regardless of being unread or not. This could be an option.
Great Job the old addon definitely needed a rewrite!

p/s I had the same suspicions as NM below, but discovered that the headers in messages from one server was different to the message from the other server. (Obviously I know). This meant the message size was different. So I deselcted the message size criteria, and selected all other criteria and bingo. Every single duplicate was detected. I have a backlog of 10 years worth of messages it did the lot.

I have found this add on to be very reliable. I have noticed in upgrading from 0.3 to 0.3.1 it has missed some duplicates but as I looked it has just become more precise on what is a duplicate, I played with the settings and it is working great.

The Alternate certainly has very useful additional functionality and a much friendlier user interface. However, it does fall short on reliability and unlike the original from Thorsten Schmidt (which the author referrs to as zombie-ish) the Alternate can miss a lot (literally hundreds of duplicates) in larger accounts with thousands of messages and multiple folders.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.1).In most cases people complain about the extension missing duplicates, closer inspection shows that the messages actually differ in some minor way which isn't checked by the other extension.
If you feel some dupes are missed, please open a bug on the mozdev bugzilla, post a folder with some missed-dupes, and we'll see...
