Works very well. Pair this with a full screen add-on like mFull for true awesomeness. Thanks to Peter for making this available.
This is my favourite addon for Firefox!
thank you for all these great apps
Peter, I want to thank you very much. Always wanted to have such functionality
Features/options I miss and suggest to add, if you have time:
1) Justify text in columns (narrow columns look ugly and are hard to read, when text is left alignt).
2) Switchable fading on top/bottom of the page.
3) Configurable font size and style (some fonts only look good in small sizes in bold).
4) Newspaper display mode (fill columns with text starting with the leftmost one, not the center one; scroll pages - sets of columns relative to current windows size, not text. Currently only PgUp/PgDn allow for such behaviour, but pages are not visually prominent, and text columns are assigned to different "screens" when I reached the end and skip screens back with PgDn)
If only justification would be added, I'd call this the most useful addon for me.
Anyway, great job!
Works very well.
Needs a small icon for the navigation menubar.
update: I don't know how to reply. The icon is visible now but I've also rebuilt the prefs from scratch. Thanks for your response.
What do you mean by 'needs a small icon'? Doesn't it show up, doesn't it look good, or isn't it sized correctly? Do you use any special themes? Is this issue still present with version 5.6?
Here is the reply from IDM support:
We have tested it more closely.
Indeed if you not simply restart browser but close and open again, such problem persists.
But IDM add-on does not have code that deletes elements from popup menu, even for its own elements. But Column
Reader has several times deletion of some elements from menu, and it uses some complex ID of elements, so they
could easily mix something.
We are sure that this but is only from Column Reader, you should contact their support.
I recently encountered a similar problem in the ThunderBird mail program. The problem would be present only one in three times after start-up, but that was sufficient for fixing it. In ThunderBird, the reason for failure was that the XUL overlay code still isn't compatible to bootstrapped extensions, even though these have been around for six years now. Merely adding an event handler to the content context menu at an early stage of program start-up would prevent other items from being added to this menu.
I have never encountered this problem in Firefox, but I think it likely has the same cause when it occurs. The fix which worked in ThunderBird will be provided in the next update of Column Reader.
This addon has made me easy to read long articles which otherwise seem a daunting task for me. I simply use this addon when i want to do speed reading, and it helps me to see chunk of text like pictures! I love this addon as i found it by myself and consider it as my prized possession.Firebug can be used to change the font size too这个评论是针对附加组件的一个早期版本的（5.0）。
I love this add-on for ease my eyes when reading long articles. Wondering is it possible to have an option to keep original foreground color when using light color theme.这个评论是针对附加组件的一个早期版本的（4.1.1-signed）。
Great add-on, exactly what I was looking for!
The only thing would be better in my opinion is to have an option to remove the infinite scroll, which makes me a little disoriented sometimes... but still, great add on, thanks!
An exceptional addon, but it's lacking a pretty basic feature as far as I'm concerned. That is the ability to change the text-font size. If said option gets added into the configuration menu, I can't imagine anything else to ask for.这个评论是针对附加组件的一个早期版本的（4.1.1-signed）。
1) The first reason for this option being absent is that there are many settings that override or modify a given font size in pixels (application zoom, page zoom, text zoom, minimum font size, CSS transform, font-size scaling). Adding another size to that merely leads to confusion.
2) The second reason is that within Column Reader I try to make only those changes to the layout which are needed for a column view, in order to prevent unpredictable styling conflicts.
I'm willing to look into this again to see whether I can guarantee a single absolute font size (or compressed range of absolute font sizes) for all text (not including compensation for minimum font sizes as set in the Firefox preferences).
Please donate to make it possible.
A special and awesome addon,performs very well.Thanks!这个评论是针对附加组件的一个早期版本的（4.1.1-signed）。
Realy great viewer addons. Thanks a lot for your work.
I really like that this add-on is lightweight and allows you to select the specific element to apply it to. Of course, as others have said, it could really use a better/more user-friendly user interface, and perhaps that is where my problem comes in.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to disable that fade effect on the top and bottom margins. It's making certain lines of text unreadable, which defeats the purpose of an add-on like this. Example: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cugomsmthwms6cf/Capture.PNG?dl=0
How do I get rid of that fade effect? It needs to be gone.
Column Reader is content-agnostic, so it cannot correct for lines that are cut in half - the fade out merely keeps these lines readable and makes clear where to start reading at the top of the column. I guess it takes some time to get used to.
In the future, I might create an extension that makes use of CSS columns, which do have content-aware layout. However, CSS columns did not exist yet when I developed Column Reader.
FANTASTIC! This makes it super easy to read articles, etc. The layout is wonderful. It truly makes reading from a website like reading from a book!这个评论是针对附加组件的一个早期版本的（4.1.1-signed）。
