I can download the dictionary, but there seems no way to install it.
Esta análise é para uma versão anterior da extensão (3.1.8). Esse usuário tem uma análise anterior desta extensão.Heya, Dave,
Read the instructions here:
https://proofingtoolgui.org/en_installing.html
Basically, you can simply open the tools → add-ons → dictionaries, and drag'n'drop the .xpi file into this window.

A brilliant addition that TB needs ( if you write in English and not American). It just works so well. Only slight quibble is with 's. In its word list it seems to list every word in two versions, without and with the 's rather than just ignoring the 's ending. And sometimes these 's endings are dubious - certain words are never likely to need a possessive form and are so obscure that in the unlikely event that someone did need to write about, say "the muctate's appearance" they'd know- And words that normally end with s ( like plurals) should should be s' e.g the boys' houses.
Esta análise é para uma versão anterior da extensão (3.1.7).Dear brother,
Thank you for your kind words.
Regarding the possessives, they have to be added by hand.
So, I am going through all words, checking which ones are nouns and adding possessives to them.
Certain words I do not add possessives, special words such as Taxonomic and time eras.
You are right about the plurals. I have been adding possessives to them because I have noticed that now-a-days in English texts, some people write: “the boys's houses” instead of the “the boys' houses”, but I will start fixing it for the next versions. It will take me a few months to have it done.
I couldn't find “muctate”, but some words are tricky, such as “OBE's” (Out of Body Experiences): “An OBE's a good experience”, so it could be using “'s” as a possessive or as an “is”.
So much that needs to be done!
Thank you again for the kind words!

Nice try, but cannot install either the dictionary or language pack on TB 78 because, according to mozapps, the 'file appears to be corrupt'.
"If you can't install the language pack, it is a Mozilla issue."
Well, it's certainly a Mozilla product I'm trying to add it to, but that's the platform it's supposed to be built for. I didn't have any problem following the installation instructions from within TB and I d/led both the pack (the TB78 version) and the dictionary twice just in case.
Update: You are correct, Marco. It was a Thunderbird issue. I have reinstalled TB over the existing installation and add-ons now install and work fine. Thank you for your efforts.
If you can't install the language pack, it is a Mozilla issue.

The spellchecker is awful, comes up with outlandish suggestions, sometimes based on the first few letters typed but ignoring the whole word. Also the suggestions seem to be in length order, so will always offer two letter suggestions, then 3, then 4, even if there is an obvious 4 letter solution.
Also fails to learn, but I guess it is not designed to (e.g. I always tipe time as tiem, and the first option it offers is always item, which I have literally NEVER accepted)
Yes, sure.
Read this:

Anyway, every time there is an issue with words appearing flagged e-mail me, read the FAQ or the installation instructions here:

I have used this dictionary for a number of years now and cannot fault it. I thank Mr Pinto for his time and skill for producing such a useful tool.

My spelling is poor, I need spell-checkers, this was my go to for Thunderbird and Firefox since it was released. However, with this current version I feel that many if not the majority of suggested spelling corrections are so woefully off the mark as to be laughable, requiring me to try a number of alternative incorrect variant spellings before the correct suggestion appears. In fact there have been times when I have resorted to typing the word into websearch because that does an overall better job (though very inconvenient) of working out what I was trying to spell. If there was a good alternative I'd definitely be trying that out instead.
Addition 2020-05-13 - Hello Marco, How would you like me to provide examples? I've been collecting screenshots, however, I could not find a way to eply to your request let alone upload the sceenshots via the add-on pages.
Could you give an example of what you mean?

Works great when Thunderbird updated to latest version
Esta análise é para uma versão anterior da extensão (2.69).Hello!
Here is what I replied to users both in public and in private:
"
I know.
V2.69 of the GB speller is now a WebExtension and it requires at least Thunderbird 60.5 (29-JAN-2019).
Mozilla triggered the updates of the speller faster than the trigger of Thunderbird.
Go to the menu: Help > About, and update from Thunderbird 60.4 to 60.5 and it should work.
Please tell me if it fixes the issue.
"
FOR LINUX (updates of Thunderbird can't be forced):
"
In the Thunderbird dictionary page, select at the bottom to see all previous releases.
Then, download 2.68, install it manually on Thunderbird and disable in it the automatic updates.
Once there is an update for Linux, go to the add-ons option on Thunderbird and re-enable its updates.
This is the best I can think of.
Tell me if it works!
Thanks!

Not sure what is going on but my version must be corrupt even though I have downloaded it twice and restarted Thunderbird.
Words like cars, parts, ferrules, washers, into etc. get corrected to car s, part s, ferrule s, washer s, in to ?
Words like supplied, tapping, offending get converted to sup plied, tap ping, off ending (but it does include unoffending?).
It's sending me mad as I have a pages full of red squiggles and what's even worse I cannot spell in the first place.
Barry
I thought it was OK on 60.4 but having upgraded to 60.5 it is now working OK.
Many thanks

There's something wrong with affixes. It's not recognising simple things like cats or generated.
Edit: Updating to 60.5 fixed it

I know it's not your fault but this is "Incompatible with Thunderbird 60.4.0."
Esta análise é para uma versão anterior da extensão (2.68).Hello!
It is compatible with 60.4 as it is the one I am using.
It just isn't with 65+.
And after 60.5 is released at the end of the month, Mozilla will probably convert all the remaining dictionaries to WebExtensions and 60.5 will be the minimum requirement.

I have tried this and that, have read and re-read instructions, and keep going round in circles.
Esta análise é para uma versão anterior da extensão (2.61).Hello!
There isn't much magic in the process:
1) right-click in the "add to Firefox" button;
2) Save the file to the hard disk;
3) Open the target folder and drag the file to the Desktop (or save it there directly);
4) Open Firefox and go to the menu: Tools > Add-ons;
5) Left-click in the downloaded file and drag it into the Firefox add-ons window;
6) Accept the installation;
7) Right-click in an editable text area, for example: try it here when you are going to increase your rate to 5 stars, Select: Languages > English (United Kingdom) in the pop-up menu.
Voilà!
Not much magic in it.
Please try it and send me a private e-mail if you need any further help.
EDIT: If you have already the GB speller from the other guy, you need to remove it as it will conflict with mine.

the extension is installed, but how to download the dictionary ? any link please?
Esta análise é para uma versão anterior da extensão (2.59).Hello!
If the extension is installed, the extension is the dictionary.
You just need to turn it on:
http://marcoagpinto.cidadevirtual.pt/en_installing.html
See points:
3.1 & 3.2
And remember that to use it in Thunderbird, you will need to install it there.
To use it in Firefox, you need to install it there.
(to use on both, you need to install on both).

I've followed the FAQ but it doesn't spell check anything and all words come up underlined. Yes, I have selected English (GB) in the spell check settings; yes, I have uninstalled any other dictionaries (I even removed the Firefox GB Language pack as well); I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times with no change.
I've had to go back to the standard GB Language pack with a (bizarrely) US dictionary - at least the majority of words are checked now :-(
EDIT:
Can't reply to the comment below directly but I've tried manually installing the addin as per the instructions but there is no difference.
EDIT 2:
Yes, as mentioned in the original post, I have selected the Dictionary/Language for Spellchecking in an editable field - This is when it switches from just highlighting non-US words to highlighting every word so I know it's made the switch (It just doesn't accept any words as spelled correctly).
Hello Zog,
Could you try the steps explained in:
http://marcoagpinto.cidadevirtual.pt/en_installing.html
?
Please tell me if this solves your issue.
Thanks.
EDIT: Make sure you have installed on Firefox if it is to be used there. Then, right-click in an editable text area just like this one when you writing in it, and select: "Languages" -> "English (United Kingdom)"
