Any way to modify DiLecce's handy extension for 3.0? Is there a way to reset the subject header in 3.0 that I haven't found yet...?

Try the SmartTemplate extension. It has much of the same functionality and is customizable. It allows for customization of the Reply and Forward headers.

There is a new version v0.4.3, compatible with TB v2.0x., update on June 16th, 2008. Whatever the reason it has not been updated here. It now makes simpler the header substitution, since it doesn't need any filter text anymore. Also, it allows to define date format. It's available, among other places, here:

There is a NEW version, but whatever the reason it has been not updated here. It's version 0.4.3, updated on June 16th, 2008. It's compatible with 2.0x, makes header substitution simplier -no need to specify any text, now it makes it automatically- and allows to select date format. It's available here, among other places:

must have!

You must edit the *.rdf in the *.xpi to use it in TB 2.*

I tried all of the suggestions list here, but it does nothing.
Too bad...almost exactly what I was looking for.

I wish TB had something built-in that provided this functionality -- people have been requesting it for years, it seems.

Installation is could be easier. Unfortunately, it actually just replaces the quote header instead of moving it into the blockquote for the quoted e-mail, what would be better for multiple replies.

This remains an indispensable add-on for Thunderbird.

Anybody having difficulty getting it to work in newer versions of TB (v. 2.x) just needs to read the post dated 18.08.2008 from LDW1, which is spot-on and exceptionally useful: thanks so much to whoever you are!!

I agree with pft77's review. This is a great extension, but after one of the updates to TB in the last year, replies with attachments stopped working... meaning when replying to an email with attachments, the quote header settings are lost and the reply header uses the default TB header "Name of person wrote:" instead of the defined extension header. Which is really frustrating.

Here is a different extension that changes the reply quote format:
http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/changequote-en.html

It suits my needs better. One bad point of that one though: you can't customise the date format as detailed as in the current extension.

I tried installing the add-on as LDW1 has specified, but it did not work on TB 2.0.0.19.
I really like the features of Thunderbird, but am not using it because the quote header does not have any information.

to get german date in reply header just use this modification:

Nice tool and working well when responding to emails without attachments, but I can't get it to work when replying to an email that does contain an attachment.

In the option of this add-on, you can choose to use the TB default forward inline header or use the one by this add-on. Tools-->Add-ons-->This add-on-->Options

Thanks CyberAlex for posting newer version.

@LDW1: You can change month from '08' to 'Aug' by changing '%mmm' rather than '%mm' in the date format box. Don't know how to get rid of the time zone info, that bugs me too.

What I'd like to see as well, is the option to differentiate between Reply and Forward: currently the extension changes both replying and forwarding headers, while I just want the reply header to be changed and leave the forward header alone.

Wow.

What a palaver to get a proper reply header with date and time etc. Crikey!

But it works with Tb 2.0.0.16 (on my system anyway!).

Here's what I did:

1) Download TB_Reset_Quote_Header_0.4.3.xpi

2) Save to add-ons location (in my case, C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird)

3) Copy TB_Reset_Quote_Header_0.4.3.xpi elsewhere.
Rename to TB_Reset_Quote_Header_0.4.3.zip

4) Open TB_Reset_Quote_Header_0.4.3.zip

5) Copy the two .txt files (quoteHdrHtml.txt and quoteHdr.txt) back to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird (or wherever you saved the xpi file)

6) Install add-on. Restart.

7) Go to Tools > Add-ons > TB Reset Quote Header yadda yadda > Options

8) Under Text Quote Header Template Filename click BROWSE, and find C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\quoteHdr.txt (or whatever)

9) Under DATE FORMAT change to

%dd/%mm/%yyyy %hr:%mn:%ss

to get UK layout and 24 hour clock

10) Click on OK

When I reply to a message, this gives me the following header:

> ----- Original Message -----
> From: Sid Nerk
> To: My name here
> Sent: 09/08/2008 17:32:07 +0100
> Subject: TB Add-ons

You can then edit the text file accordingly. Mine now reads:

> ----- Original Message -----
> From: @A@
> To: @R@
> CC: @C@
> Sent(dd/mm/yyyy): @D@

which gives:

> ----- Original Message -----
> From: Sid Nerk
> To: My name here
> Sent(dd/mm/yyyy): 09/08/2008 19:32:07 +0100

Ideally I'd like the month name in there (Aug) instead of the confusing UK/US conflict, and lose the +0100, but I'm not going to fiddle any further...

So: tiresome, but it works.

How do we get rid of ol' "flying dutchmen" like this?
And since people say it doesn't work with TBird2 I ask what's the point of keeping it around in 2008???

Please release an update compatible to the current version of Thunderbird! Cause the information-less quote headers are also an issue in Thunderbird 2. Thanks a lot!

Yes, the developer link is still broken and no contact possible.
