If you know how to download something when you want to download something and you don't need the server telling you (forcing you) whether you should download something or open it with a browser, then you need this extension.

For years I've been bothered by sites that force me to choose which application to open their links with, because Firefox can't remember my choice if the server forces download, rather than open. This happens to images too, which is unbelievably bad.

NO FREAKING MORE!!!!

Hopefully this isn't 'abandon-ware'. It works perfectly for me so please keep it up to date. :)

As mentioned before, works mostly, but not always. It'd be nice if it would get fixed.

Works for most sites. Doesn't work with some sites that use nonstandard (but still valid) formatting of the Content-Disposition header.
Works: Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="test.txt"
Fails: content-disposition: attachment;filename="ANS_SPEC_V10.pdf"
(from https://www.bluetooth.org/en-us/specification/adopted-specifications)

This is fantastic, I use it to load .torrent links automatically into utorrent when torrents would previously always open the dialogue box despite "do this automatically" being checked (to over ride server side forced octet streaming... I think(?)).

Greate extension but it would be nice to have per-site and per-file-type settings.

Does exactly what it says it will! Sure, there are some files that won't work, but that's what the Force Content Type addon is for.

This works great to enable Firefox's internal rendering capability for PDF's where the site sends Content-Disposition: attachment. One of my must have add-ons.

Works, but mp4 files served with MIME-type "application/octet-stream" open in the browser via plugin instead of showing the download dialog. I'm not sure how to fix that.

Works perfectly! (FF 19, Win 7)

I noticed starting with FF 17 when you try to download a link to a .mkv file, FF will try to open it in the browser and fails saying the video is corrupt instead of downloading the file. Disabling this addon fixed it.

Great add-on, I was having problems with firefox not automatically opening .nzb files from a particular site automatically in my usenet client, even though I had ticked the "do the this automatically from now on" box and made sure the appropriate program was setup for the file type in firefox options.

This add-on has fixed the problem and now my .nzbs are opened automatically.

Many thanks to the dev =)

Time after time I have researched this problem and all I could find was someone suggesting "how to's" for setting Firefox options or some story about the wrong MIME type. This is THE fix and it puts control of Save Dialogs back in the user's hands! Thank You!

I was very annoyed with how firefox handled the content attachment images after FF10. This add-on solved the problem easily, no more downloading of generated images!

Very tiny, restartless and useful addon for one who use torrent trackers based on torrentpier engine.

Amazing. Solves the problem with Firefox asking about torrent links all the time. Install, no options, no fuss.

Now I can finally click external links from IRC or Instant Message chat that should automatically launch a viewer application without Firefox asking me "what to do" each time.

This extension fixes bug 453455

This works nicely for Word and Excel attachments. But not for PDFs which now don't open at all. So I've had to disable it and go back to the annoying situation where Firefox asks you what to do every time even though you've clicked "do this automatically from now on"
