I've recently migrated from Opera to Firefox (after dropping Presto engine and moving to Webkit by Opera Software) and I'm looking for add-ons to mimic Opera functionality with Fx. Newsfox is very good, feels almost Opera-like. :)
One question, though - does Newsfox refresh feeds when Firefox starts (which would be excellent) or do I have to start Newsfox to make it work? Somehow I'm unable to figure that out, no notifications come with browser start and I see feeds refreshing after I launch Newsfox manualy. Thanks!
You have to start Newsfox, for example, you may add it to the list of tabs to open upon launch (if I'm not mistaken).

The best Feedreader for Firefox! Using since 3 Years!
Feature Request: Filter News by words. Dont need read some repeating news from my feeds, would be very nice to filter them out!

I have one major issue with this add-on: it is not possible to copy urls from the item list.
I need to copy urls in bulk into another program.
This should be trivial to implement, and should have been years ago.
It does not even need to be in the context menu, a keyboard shortcut would be good enough.
EDIT: So there is already a workable solution to this problem but the option is buried in about:config.
Find newsfox.advanced.copyToClipboard and set the value as 2.
The article URL will now be copied to clipboard every time you open one.

After updating Newsfox the other day, clicking the NF icon produced a message about the icon being deprecated; use new icon. So I substituted the new icon for the old, only to discover that the new icon is twice as wide as the old one and takes up twice as much space on the toolbar. WTF!?
Followup: I'm talking about the NewsFox icon in Firefox, not the buttons within NewsFox.
Update: OK. I figured out the problem. At the time I updated, "none" was already selected as the text option for buttons. As already described, updating resulted in a double-width NewsFox icon (the extra width apparently for displaying the number of unread items). I went in to options, changed the button text option to "unread", then changed it back again, and the double-width icon had changed to its normal size. Still, half the time the icon has a blue background, and half the time it doesn't.
Go to Options - General - NewsFox button text and select "none" and the width will disappear.
Most people wish to have either the #new or #unread displayed, so that is the default.
Update: The blue background means that NewsFox has found an RSS feed on the page. All the possible features of the button are at http://newsfox.mozdev.org/rss/2008.html#nf34.

can you replace iframes like iframe#buildContent and other weird stuff with regular elements to make it easier to style your addon with userstyles?

I've been using this plugin since like forever.
Tried changing but always comes back like an addict,
the one and only option I would love to have is the ability to change the fonts.
previously I was using stylish (another plugin) to alter the fonts in newsfox. but after this latest update 1.0.9.0.1
it doesn't seem to work anymore.
the ability to add css files into the installation folder in the past
was really appreciated.
But if options were built directly into the plugin, that would be aweome!

The display of new/unread articles next to the button can be disabled completely in the settings, BUT
this setting is not applied when firefox is restarted. pls fix. thx in advance

The setting itself is remembered and applied correctly. When setting the option to do not show the numbers the space next to the button disappears. This is the wanted behaviour. Then when restarting the browser from now on still no number is shown, but an empty space is still there.
I can't find anything wrong with the NewsFox code.
I just try it a couple times until it works.

Nice add-on. But why do you set so much empty space to the right of the icon? It's looking somewhat strange on the panel.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.9.0.1.1-signed).The number of new/unread articles can be displayed next to the icon. Making and removing space based on the number of unread/new articles is a no-no and we want to leave room for at least 1000 articles.

Thanks for an awesome add-on! I use Newsfox (v. 1.0.9) several times a day everyday; it has become indispensable!
Try as I might looking for answers through the web and support resources, I could not find anywhere an option to download more than 25 feeds at a time for each channel. Is there a solution or setup option for that?

I'm not sure I understand your question. It should download all the articles(items) for each feed.

We would definitely be interested in having pt-BR again. There shouldn't be too many strings to translate as we used to have such a translation. We used babelzilla.org - email me about this as well if you are interested and don't feel like just jumping into Babelzilla.

Дополнение - супер, перебрал много читалок RSS в попытке перейти с Opera на Firefox, и вот нашел самое гармоничное и корректно работающее с моим портативным вариантом браузера.
Единственное "но" - как-то странно работает вот с этой лентой: http://feeds.feedburner.com/nirsoft/voiG. Сколько не удаляю новости - ничего толком не удаляется, сколько раз подряд не обновляю - добавляются новые строчки... беда. У Оперы во встроенной читалке с этим проблем не было.

Simply the best.
Sometimes I tryed use IE or Chrome and ever I back because they don't have something like NewsFox.
For my only a suggestion: Possibility of change screen distribution. I would like three vertical panes...

If you mean like the French flag, separating lines vertical, then check options > general > horizontal panes.
If you mean like the Spanish flag, separating lines horizontal, then you're currently out of luck.

Best RSS reader I've seen.
Thanks for fixing the bugs introduced by Firefox 25 so quickly in Newsfox 1.0.8.4.3. I hope it gets uploaded to addons.mozilla.org soon.

I like most things about this add-on, with one exception. I can't find any way to hide news items that I've already read. So what this means to me is that if a newsfeed has 100 items, with only one that is still unread, I have to scroll through all 100 lines just to find the one I want to open. I even tried changing the sort order so that unread items will be on top, but that didn't work at all.

I had tried nearly every feed reader addon for firefox, and had settled on using the Digest addon. It had it's flaws and was slow, but was reliable.
A friend suggested NewsFox, however, and it completely blows everything else out of the water. The only flaw I've seen so far is improper handling of sub-folders when importing an OPML, but that's it. No other flaws from what I can see so far.

1. Добавить корзину и удалять в корзину сразу, а не зачеркивать. Тогда список будет смещаться, а то не видно следующей строчки в списке ленты/группы. Потом отдельно удалять/восстанавливать из корзины.
2. Когда курсор в группе на ленте сразу показывать первое сообщение. Сейчас надо специально переходить и выделять (ставить фокус).
3. Добавить опцию в настройки "Не удалять/не показывать сообщения с биркой". Иначе присвоил и удалил случайно вместе со всеми. Так метки (labels) реализованы были в Opera. Без корзины и не вспомнишь...
4. Добавить опцию "Сделать backup" вручную. Иначе после создания бирки слева часто падает и потом проблема с восстановлением...

Generell bin ich mit NewsFox und dessen Handhabung sehr zufrieden. Was mich allerdings wirklich stört ist der zum Teil ziemlich verzögerte Abruf von Aktualisierungen (zum Teil bis zu 4 Stunden für Blogs, die nicht aus Übersee, sondern aus derselben Stadt stammen)
