Open Google Calendar

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

It has a lot of potential, especially since Lighting is so poor as a synched calendar. Sadly, I installed it today, and like many others find that 'Tasks' appear in their window but are visible for only a second or so, then they disappear leaving a blank window that cannot be closed. This is a pain, not only can I not see my tasks, but the rest of the calendar is made small by the blank task window. Shame., I hope it improves because TB needs a good synched calendar.

On the positive side, the Google calendar appears exactly like it does in the GUI interface, and changes made in your calendar in both the tab and the web GUI appear in the other calendar within a few seconds. Creating new events, deleting events and editing existing everts can be made in either calendar.
Once the task window problem is resolved it will be a really good addon.

Provider for Google Calendar

I like this add-on, it works and I've never had any problem with it, EXCEPT there is never any Release Notes available when an update is released. Quite honestly, the lack of Notes makes me suspicious, it can't be that much work to describe what has changed, and it's the only add-on I have in both FF and TB that never has never has any Notes.

In this day and age, anybody who simply updates software without checking what has changed, especially what implications they have for security (including 'phoning home' is asking for trouble.

I haven't updated this add-on for a while because of the lack of Release Notes and I haven't noticed any impaired function.

Come-on developer, I'm quite sure you don't have anything to hide, so why not do Release Notes so we can be sure?

British English Dictionary (Marco Pinto)

Works well in Thunderbird, rather ironic that I had to create this review in order to create an 'editable text box' so I could enable the dictionary in Firefox!

Mailbox Alert

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Thunderbird did a dirty trick when my profile was damaged and auto updated itself. Now I find most of my addons don't work, and this is one of them. I've used it for about 7 years or so and found it very useful. The ability to have custom alerts for different accounts and folders (useful when using server side filters) and the ability to silence the alert for routine mail such as newsletters etc was invaluable. I hope it can be updated or a replacement arrives soon.

The star review is simply because it doesn't work (can't give it full marks when it doesn't work!), otherwise, it would get full marks.

Manually sort folders

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

very handy when it works, but only works for a few of my accounts. For the others, the app shows the folders sorted how I want them, but even after refreshing, the folder pane is unchanged.

Flat Folder Tree

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

No sign of any extra view, and folder options are greyed out. NB, this is same with the 'compatibility solved' version DL and installed manually

shame, looked useful

RSE Tools

Worthless. Not worth a fraction of a star
Even worse, dishonest and misleading. Does nothing unless you are registered user, in contravention of the add-ons description. Even then, what it does is not what it claims to. All it can do, is search the storage site.

I installed this hoping to apply more complicated filters than TB natively allows, and to apply filters to folders other than the Inbox.

I prefer to filter at server level and fine tune at PC level. The code by another reviewer (Can delete a message automatically without sending it to the trash) works brilliantly. I wanted to apply that filter to mail already sorted by the server into the Spam folder, but the 'folder name' filter doesn't work, as mentione din another review, so although the code works, I cannot apply it to the Spam folder, only the Inbox, and to do that I would need many, many key word filters to identify all the spam (by filtering spam on the server, it happens in the background with no load on my PC, unlike running multiple key word filters on my PC).

Another thing I wanted to do was to add and remove text to the subject. It allows text to be added, but not removed which is a shame.

Overall, good idea but not quite there for me. Maybe the next update?

Edit
I made a couple of posts on the author's site, asking how I could achieve my aims using this add-on. After a week, the posts haven't been approved which I assume means he hasn't read them. Support wouldn't seem to be a strong feature of this add-on, based on my experience. But I wish him and users of this add-on the best of luck anyway because TB could benefit greatly from better filtering.

British English Dictionary

I can't remember when I first started using this but have never had any problems. I use it in Thunderbird and Firefox

Came to this page to add it again after an uninstall and reinstall of Firefox.

I was surprised to see a reviewer say it didn't recognise 'colour'. It does, as well as 'centre' and other British English words, but you have to select the language/dictionary to be used when you install the addon. (right click context menu), as stated by a reviewer about 5 or 6 reviews down. After that it works fine.

Mailbox Alert

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I've used this for a year or two and find it very useful. The latest version adds a few useful options.

I am puzzled that for some folders, when testing the alert, I get the following message even though the alert works

"XX] error at undefined:617: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH) [nsILocalFile.leafName]" nsresult: "0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://mailboxalert/content/mailboxalert_funcs.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 617" data: no]"

Also sometimes, the custom sound is cut off half way through. Don't know if that is a system thing or its within Mailbox.

Copy Sent to Current

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I've used this for a long time, and always thought it worked well and was very useful. Now, for some reason, I find that not only is it asking me where to save the email (which is how I want it), it's also saving a copy in the sent folder as well. Periodically, I have to go through the sent folder, check that I have a copy in the correct folder, then delete the sent folder copy - it creates more work than simply keeping things in the sent folder, or periodically moving the sent copiers to the correct project files.I also find it doesn't always ask where to save the file.I have checked the configuration and can't find anything wrong. To me, the extension is useless

There is no place on the author's site to leave comments, and as you can see, he doesn't bother responding here either. I conclude he isn't interested in improving the add-on, or resolving problems.

Sender Name

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It changes the name shown in the message pane, for each email, but doesn't change anything in the thread pane as stated. The thread pane still shows the old, unfriendly data from the email.I'm looking for a replacement for "address book display name" which does change the thread pane columns. It hasn't been updated for TB5, so I thought I'd look at this add-on....... Going back to "address book display name" because it actually works, and putting off any update to TB5

Why we should need an addon to do this I don't know, because the bug is supposed to be 'fixed' that allows the option to display address book names to be used. Guess it was 'fixed' in TB3, and will start working a few updates later, maybe around TB7. HaHa

ThunderBrowse

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

after trying this add-on and finding it wasn't suitable, I removed it, only to find a Thunderbrowse splash screen littering my folders. No surprise that it isn't documented anywhere, and obviously no mention of how to get rid of it.

Mozilla should clamp down on add-ons that do this - what other undocumented and unwanted things has it done to my system? As far as I am concerned this is MALWARE.

Developer: Have you abandoned this add-on for Thunderbird?

You've updated for Firefox v4, yet the current mainstream download is only 3.6.10, meanwhile, the current mainstream for Thunderbird is 3.1.4, yet the add-on stopped working at v3!!!

It looks like you've abandoned Thunderbird, why else release updates for future Firefox versions, when the add-on doesn't work with current Thunderbird releases?

It's very useful and I miss it. especially because I want to use the same add-on in both TB and FF, but I guess I'll find another add-on at least for TB, and preferably for FF as well.

Manually sort folders

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works flawlessly, very useful when adding new subfolders and wanting them in particular positions in the folder list.

I originally thought I would use this only once after installing TB, but find I'm using it every week to move folders up and down the folder list as their priority changes.
