After some research, I found what corresponds to the "sidebar for all that" : Chrome embeds an Emoji popup which is displayed by pressing the Windows key + the ". " key

It may be useful for others than me ;)

There characters as a scientist and advocate for precision-perhaps- that are ESSENTIAL to
a clearly composed note or letter/e-mail. Full expression perhaps in any communication?
Chrome now has a sidebar for all that and FF lately just abolished Character palette.
Good to do a download for an old iteration of FF.

This was a great add-on.

I needed an "n" with a tilde and searched for extensions on FF. Character Palette is easy to use and has all the characters I need.

I'm using this app for Unicode symbols and my kid's French lessons. Functionally it's fantastic, especially the ease of single-click copy/middle-click paste, and the ability to add your own sets of characters.

A few have already mentioned some things it could use, and I agree. It would be good to have either a toggle button to get rid of the bar when not in use, or equally, if there was a setting to change the view to a button/drop-down menu or toggle to a side-panel instead of a toolbar, any of those options would work great. The reason for wanting this kind of a feature is obvious: some of us have wide-screen laptops which are not very tall, so yet another toolbar is not always desirable.

Still, I'm using it, it's very good, and I'm just waiting for a future update from the developer that will add that additional functionality.

Kudos to the developer, and good job ★★★★ ☺

Like others, I think it'd be better to not have this as a separate toolbar- though that can easily be turned on / off. But I don't see the point of having a full width toolbar & only showing 6 - 7 characters at once. Why all the wasted space? Maybe make it where characters can be copied from drop down list (space them out)?

It'd probably be better as an addon bar button, where the whole palette pops up.
But, if it's much easier to program like you did, OK. Don't know if either method would use less RAM, when not actively using CP.

When I open the CM toolbar (using an Fx light weight theme), the background is the same as background of my theme. That's OK - to a point. Unless using a very solid type background, many of the characters or parts of them are quite small & difficult to see.

You can set a background color for the toolbar using Stylish or a useChrome.css code, but most don't want to hassle w/ it. That may be a good reason to have the character palette pop up from the addon bar, using it's own background that contrasts w/ the characters.

On the Github help site, it says,
"To add a new palette to the applet, click on the Add button."
Really? How do I actually DO that? What format do the "additions" need to be? Can I add whole collections? Where do you get them & what format are they?
Could I add the whole collection from Windows Character Map?

New Macs don´t have a mouse with a middle button. Only option is then right click and paste. It will be great if you can double click the special character to insert it in the text

As many other commenters have said, this is a good idea with very poor implementation. It needs a toggle on/off button. It needs more choice of characters. It needs better customization. The appearance of the toolbar is bad.

To sum up: Great idea, not worth installing yet.

I would like to support this, but I don't see how to input the characters for a custom palette. I need the degrees symbol, for example, and see it in NONE of the existing palettes. And I would like to be able to DELETE some of the supplied palettes with the option to RESTORE the defaults.

It would HELP if the palettes were NAMED (add a column to the selection drop-down). For example "Symbols"

ⓘ Great tool, but can you PLEASE add a toolbar button to toggle it on or off?

Great if you can put the bar on 'composition bar'.

Quite useful extensions, but it is taking to much space as a separated toolbar. All options can be found in extension Paste Email Plus, but it is delivered as a single button with menu from which user can pick needed text or character. In conclusion it is nice extension, but there are better doing the same job.

This add-on is exactly what I needed: a no-frills, plain & simple, down-to-earth, instant character-copier to insert Hispanic, copyright, and registered trademarks quickly and easily into my writing. Good job, Ryan! Five Stars!! I also enjoy the ability to configure other character tables as I need them. Frankly, I'm grateful for this add-on...$1.99 is the least I can do. Thanks again, Ryan!

Pretty useful,I like it. I think it will substitute my Yahoo! widget.

Far to limited options. Needs the ability to make much smaller, hide and move to a different place on the browser.

Great idea, that needs work!

A nice start.
The functions, how ever nice they might be for some, don't do nothing for me. Would be nice to be able to hide/remove them.
