Wonderful selection of colors and intuitive operation. Make sure you pay attention to the Remark. My Thunderbird release had the "Override the colors specified"...option checked wrong.

A simple extension that really comes in useful. I, too, had the same problem as others with it suddenly not working after a T/B update and also found the "Colour override" option was causing it. Problem solved.

Works on v.102.0. Very tiny, simple and unobtrusive. Almost couldn't see where the icon was but now I know where to look for it... Don't need the extra colours, but if anyone does, they're there.
I imagine that's due to the way Tbird security is now but it's not an easy process to install addons like it used to be. At least the process can be found in the help.

Since my first review, the creator gave me a helping hand and now it works
You have to go into:
Preferences - General - Language&Appearance - Colors
and set the override to 'never' in the drop down menu "Override the colours....."

useful but the html added uses some color names (cyan, gold, etc.) : as a consequence my correspondents cannot see the hilite ( messaging clients or webmails ) except Lime, Yellow, Fuchsia , ... ---> should use instead something like <span style="background-color: rgb(255, 215, 0);"> except for the 16 colors of html4.1 ( https://www.w3.org/TR/html4/types.html#h-6.5 )

I'm using BetterBird and this add-on doesn't seem to be working for me. I do not see the button "Mark" appear on the top right of the screen. I just can't highlight anything. The add-on does appear in my settings correctly.
Post-Review Comment: The developer's suggestion worked! I have now changed my rating to reflect this outcome.
In some cases the button does not appear automatically after the Add-on installation (I don’t know why). Then you can right-click on the toolbar, choose “Customize …”, then the Mark button should appear in the list and can be dragged to the toolbar.

Excellent add-on! In the past I used go use "Highlighter" which unfortunately no longer works. So, this is a real life-saver.

Sehr einfach zu nutzendes Addon. Tut alles was es soll. Entwickler ist sehr hilfsbereit. Hatten Probleme: Button «Mark» war nicht sichtbar. Workaround => Klicke mit rechter Maustaste auf andere Buttons in der Button-Zeile (Kontextmenu) > «Anpassen» > Button «Mark» an gewünschte Stelle ziehen > Fertig!
Super angenehm damit zu arbeiten.

Works, but controls are a bit obtuse, having to read instructions to learn to use the correct combination of mouse clicks and Ctrl/Shift keys to make it work. Having a drop-down menu option for the Mark button to set/unset colours and access a help screen would make it easier. (There was a highlighter add-on for Mozilla SeaMonkey Messenger that worked much this way.) Gmail has the highlighter feature now inbuilt; Thunderbird should consider doing so, too.

This said, would you reconsider the rating for my Add-on?
I agree that Thunderbird should implement highlighting as standard feature and make my Add-on superfluous.

C-E, love your apps. I have a small error I wanted to correct. Under the DETAILS tab, the first sentence; ""Highlighting" is achieved be changing the background colour of the selected text.". Shouldn't the "be" be "by"?

Wonderful addition to T-Bird.
One suggestion: add an option (attached to the highlight) to bold text and change the text color to White, i.e. clicking on the "Mark" changes text and adds highlight. A darker Textmarker color hides the normal text -- I like Red with bold white text.

Jetzt kann ich mit gutem Gewissen 5 sterne geben, nachdem ich eine Hilfe-mail erhielt. Vieleicht kann mann die Beschreibung ergänzen dass die Funktion nur im "Verfassen"Modus aktiv ist. Es ist eine komfortable Funktion um Text passagen zu Markieren.

Hello, this is not a criticism, this addon is really very practical! No, what I was thinking is that it would be nice to be able to color parts of the received messages as well, it would be extremely useful to highlight the important parts of these messages, especially if they are long. Is this in the future possibilities of this addon?

It is not possible to edit RECEIVED e-mails, for obvious reasons, so this is nothing my Add-on could do.

Bravo et merci pour cette add-on que j'attendais depuis longtemps.
Je n'avais mis initialement que 4 * car une chose me gênait : quand on surlignait un mot en cours d'écriture, le texte suivant restait surligné et je ne savais pas comment l'annuler ... (en fait, je n'ai pas pu reproduire ce dysfonctionnement !)
Comment revient-on au style fond de caractère transparent ??? Un fonctionnement style interrupteur serait appréciable, ou l'ajout d'une "couleur" "transparent" ?
Votre réponse me convient parfaitement.
Quelques bizarreries trouvées mais contournables.

Je ne sais pas exactement ce que vous voulez dire avec « le texte suivant reste surligné » - pouvez-vous écrire un e-mail à [email protected] et expliquer cela plus en détail, s’il vous plaît?
Dans tous les cas, pour annuler un surlignage, maintenir la touche « Maj » enfoncée et cliquer sur le bouton « Surligner », la couleur de fond du texte sélectionné redevient celle du document.

Aah, I've been waiting for this so long!
It's rather great. The only thing I don't like is the unpleasant sound when changing the colour. How can I switch that off?
Currently the sound cannot be switched off - I will introduce an option to switch it off in the next version.
Edit 16.01.2021: Version 4.5.0 now has the option to switch off the sound.
