great add-on. one less reason to use outlook, and you can't beat the price. also, the developer, leni, is *extremely* responsive.

this is a solid addon, does everything it says it does, and does it well.

but for more tech-literate users, i'd recommend GCal Dameon. much more demanding to set up, but unmatchable in use, and will seamlessly sync lightning/sunbird with google calendar, as well as dynamically sync contacts thru LDAP.

does not work with iphone however, which zindus does very well. so if that's what you're looking for, then this the addon for you.

Couple of people asked, so here is how i currently sync the iPhone with Thunderbird:

On google i use both calendar and contacts and sync both Thunderbird and the iPhone to it.

To sync google with the native iPhone contacts and calendar application i use nuevasync.com. There are other services out there but this is a no nonsense solution. It is free, it is flawless, and straightforward to install.

To sync google with Thunderbird i use add-ons: Zindus for the contacts, and "Provider for Google Calendar" for the Lightning calendar add-on.

Now i can change anything in any of these three places (google, Thunderbird, iPhone) and it propagates anywhere within a few minutes. Love it.

If i could convince myself to use IMAP then email would also be sync-ed all around, but IMAP tends to be slow, so i have resisted so far.

Needless to say, all of this is on Linux, but i suspect it would work on any OS, even windows.

Does not sync lists from TB to groups in Google. Any contacts in a list in TB will not appear in Google contacts

As a new iPhone user and longtime Thunderbird fan - I was keen to find an add-on that would sync GMail contacts with Thunderbird so that I can eventually get them into my iPhone.
I've had to hit Sync about 6 times so far to get it cranking as it eliminates duplicates - but so far so good!

This plug in works well in most situations, but with large address books it can have some erratic behaviors. So far, it hasn't corrupted anything when it's failed, which is a great thing.

The tech support people are really good, great attitude, good communication, very helpful.

Highly recommend this for T'Bird or Eudora users.

davodavo - the next release (0.8.5) will have better support for large addressbooks.

I was looking for a tool to help synchronising 2 Adress Books on PC and one GMail contacts list. At last, I discovered Zindus after a lot of tries : it does exactly what I need and does it quite well. A must have for me

Worked just like it said - synced all my address books to and from our Zimbra 5.x server. I see some ppl have had isses with it for other servers though (can't comment). Excellent add-on.

PS: this is a TWO WAY sync - if you delete the data locally that will be reflected on the server duh! This aint a bug, thats the purpose!

Tried it. Some addresses moved over...A LOT DID NOT! So, not so reliable. Since you're going to have to move them over the ones that this tool didn't move, you may as well do it manually to begin with and save some time. Good idea, just doesn't work like it should.

Boblykssk, the behaviour you are noticing is very likely explained by the fact that the addon doesn't currently sync mailing lists or the contacts in them.

AN UPDATE IS NOT THE SAME THING AS TRANSFERRING ALL YOUR DATA THROUGH IT!

I hit a bug when syncing, but the developer promptly helped me out. It's good to sync to gmail since plaxo let everyone down and decided to become another social network.
