Thank you for this extension. :) I have just found and install this extension while I was searching Firefox's FTP server modified dates timestamps. Orbit Downloader (so it is my favourite download manager for a long time :) ) can do this too. :) It preserves modified dates of files are downloaded but if you don't do Pause+Start. I have just tested this extension witt my favorite software and you may look the result: :)

Thank you for reading my comment.

Adding: I have just tested it for one of my favourite videos too via savefrom.net (YouTube video directly download site without a software and it worked perfectly. :) I am so happy. :)
Note: I read the comments of the another friends, my Firefox version I tested is old, 3 years old. Firefox 17.0 (20 November 2012)

don't bother

They changed the interface to downloads, only exposing the Referrer header to javascript code, and only exposing the string path, not the File object of the target to javascript code. So it looks like they're actively trying to stop add-on developers from modifying the download based on HTTP headers like Last-Modified. Sigh...

Like so many wrongheaded decisions in Mozilla developer land, I watched the bugs requesting this functionality languish in argument for years. I was so happy when this extension came out so that this incredibly valuable feature that should be the default was at least available to those that managed to find it.

However, on Windows, at least, the add-on is no longer working, as noted by previous reviewers, and still the case as of Firefox 29.0.1. This is a bummer as I had been downloading files that I expected to be able to go back to and have meaningful last-modified timestamps for some time before I realized the code was now broken.

great addon - thank you :-)

This add-on modifies the General tab of Firefox Options to include the "Preserve..." checkbox in the Downloads section. Because this is redundant of the same checkbox appearing in the add-on's own Options dialog, I jumped to the conclusion that Firefox had added the same capability in the base browser, but that's not the case (at least not as of FF 8.0) so this add-on remains a must-have for me.

Something I've been missing in Firefox/Mozilla, forever. Watching the "progress" of Bug 178506 since 2006 I'm now using this extension to overcome the shortcoming (using it with both Firefox and SeaMonkey). It would be really nice if it gets included into the Mozilla base, finally. It just works.

вещь!

This extension works in SeaMonkey exactly the way I would want it to work. Yes, I had some problems at first; but they were caused by me not setting the correct options. I think better instructions are needed. The few options -- two checkboxes and the "Log verbosity" selection list -- need to be explained. I still think Mozilla bug #178506 should be implemented as originally proposed, which included a user option for this capability.

After 15+ years of this bug in browsers finally we have some thing to fix it. This solves preserving modified time stamp when downloading (I wish Mozilla fix Bug 178506).

Another part of the problem is preserving modified time stamp when uploading file (Bug 549253)

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2010.09.08.22).
