"Suddenly after a long time of using Thunderbird for calendar management, the latest update of TBird (68.3.1) is no longer syncing with my Google calendar. This is so annoying."
Remember we are talking about Thunderbird, one of the best tools in the world. So maybe you just missed to do a step?
After my update, first it did not work at all.
Then I noticed: add-ons were not updated (Google Calendar & Lighting). You can do it manually or wait until it is done automatically (if auto update is active, might take some hours then).
Then: my first google-based calendar account worked directly fine (view+edit) after restart.
The 2nd one did not work at all (this was a corporate calendar): problems during logging in. First I had to login for the google calendar addon, then Lighting, which appeared over and over again without any effect.
What I did: remove calendar.
Then go to
https://myaccount.google.com/security
(User button right top at the goole website -> "Manage you google account" -> google account -> security settings)
Here, you might have added in this case
"Mozilla Thunderbird Email"
"Provider for Google Calendar"
as some corporate providers will block Thunderbird if not configured here.
I just removed "Provider for Google Calendar".
Restart Thunderbird and add a new calendar like you know it. Login, you asked to give access to the "Provider for Google Calendar", you confirm. And it worked again for me. There was also no question for the Lighting plugin coming up again.
Hope this helps!
